Well a day away and not far off from the par 3 contest.

Some are saying Tiger isn't sharp and is struggling with his game. Phil is coming in playing army golf. Ernie is probably the hottest player heading in.

Usually there is a player or two that surprises early on and hanging around the first page of the leaderboard.... my guess .... Matteo Manassero (British Am Champ) and from Japan Yuka Ikeda.

Weather is suppose to be questionable on Thursday but the rest of the week is suppose to be great.

Enjoy!!!!

Wow! I love this statement by Billy Payne. He pulls no punches but puts the ball squarely in TWs hands.

http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/masters10/news/story?id=5063768

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The chairman of Augusta National Golf Club had harsh words for Tiger Woods (http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/players/profile?playerId=462), saying the world's best golfer disappointed everyone with his sex scandal and didn't live up to expectations as a role model.
Billy Payne said Wednesday that Woods won't be judged in the future solely on his performance as a golfer, but by the sincerity of his efforts to change as a person.
"As he now says himself, he forgot in the process to remember that with fame and fortune comes responsibility, not invisibility," Payne said during his annual state of the Masters news conference. "It is not simply the degree of his conduct that is so egregious here. It is the fact that he disappointed all of us, and more importantly, our kids and our grandkids."

[+] Enlargehttp://a.espncdn.com/photo/2010/0407/pga_a_payneb_200.jpg (http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/masters10/news/story?id=5063768#) AP Photo/Rob CarrAugusta National chairman Billy Payne on Tiger Woods: 'Our hero did not live up to his status as a role model.'

Woods is returning to competitive golf for the first time since a Thanksgiving night car crash unleashed reports of a secret private life that included numerous extramarital affairs. He was dropped by several major sponsors and spent 45 days in therapy.
"Our hero did not live up to the expectations of the role model we saw for our children," Payne said. "I hope he now realizes that every kid he passes on the course wants his swing, but would settle for his smile."
Woods will tee off in the next-to-last group Thursday afternoon with K.J. Choi (http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/players/profile?playerId=77) and Matt Kuchar (http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/players/profile?playerId=257), in pursuit of his 15th major championship and fifth Masters title.
"We at Augusta hope and pray that our great champion will begin his new life here tomorrow in a positive, hopeful and constructive manner, but this time, with a significant difference from the past," Payne said. "This year, it will not be just for him, but for all of us who believe in second chances.
"Is there a way forward? I hope yes. I think yes. But certainly his future will never again be measured only by his performance against par, but measured by the sincerity of his efforts to change."
Payne declined to answer specific questions about Woods, saying his prepared remarks were all he wanted to say on the matter. The chairman also refused to address any extra security measures that were put in place after Woods announced he would return to the game at the year's first major championship.
However, Payne did scoff at the notion that Woods' decision to play at Augusta will steal attention from the tournament itself.
"We don't look at things that way," Payne said. "We are very secure in who we are, and the Masters has almost now a 74-year history. We just kind of do things our way. We are not threatened by other big news stories or things like that."

The TV coverage is sux....

Wouldn't it be great if the entire tournament was covered from opening tee shot to final putt?

But then again, too much of a good thing might spoil the magic.

this is no different than any other year

coverage has always been and will always be limited at the Masters.

the extra online live stuff is a nice bonus

I appreciate the relatively limited coverage. Watching the wall-to-wall coverage of British Open and US Open could make me nauseous at times.

As for the Billy Payne statement. Another brilliant move by Augusta National: waited till all the hoop la was over, made an official statement and let it be known that it is their only statement. Open and closed.

True. But I'd get up early and watch a LOT of both anyways. Nausea fades...

I thought that was well done. Can't ignore it, and don't linger over it. Now they can move on. (if only TW's handlers had been as smart....).

I was a little surprised that the National was seemingly welcoming Tiger with open arms. It was nice to see, they openly criticized the worlds greatest golfer because they can, and it needed to be done.

I'm not even sure it's that that early. I think featured group coverage (which Weir is a part of) will start at 11:30 or so when they reach the back-9.

I kept looking at those shoes, wondering if they even had spikes. Anyway, if I were Freddie, I wouldn't change a thing - seems to be working for him right now...

I'm trying to find a pair of shoes like those for myself - none of the new clubs I've bought have ever improved my score - must be the shoes...

Great to see two old guys showing how it's done

Don't worry, they won't last the 4 rounds. Sandy Lyle went from 69 in R1 to +10 after 10 holes in R2.

Great first round, the best I can remember in a long time. It was really nice to see the other stories take up some peoples water cooler talks. I mean Watson shooting 67 with his son on the bag was just as big as Tiger, and as we speak Freddy is at -7, and Phil has yet to tee off 2 shots back.

Tiger played very well and it was nice to see the gallery support him.

Enjoying it very much so far, today should be even better.

Total score of all 4 players wins the pool.

Good picks......I would have thought for sure Villegegas would have faired better, especially with the softer greens yesterday. His power should have set up good scoring possibilites.
