Sorry to steal you you lime-light Awoon, but this topic has been buggin me for a while. BTW my condolences to your broken clubs. In the past 2 friends of mine have been victims of stolen clubs. Unfortunalety they did not insure them, but was lucky enough for the golf club to sponsor some of their lost clubs. My question, how can I go about insuring my clubs? Do I need pictures? What forms do i fill out, etc.

I was under the impression that if your clubs are stolen from your house than yoru home insurance will cover them, or if from your vehicle than car insurance. If they are simply taken at the clubhouse than I don't know what you do.

You could probably ensure them as a seperate entity but I'd expect that the premium would be substantial since you are insuring a mobile and unsecured entity. Then again I don't have much faith in the kindness of insurance companies.

I have my clubs insured seperately from my cars and house. It only costs like 3 dollars a month extra for the piece of mind! I didnt have to take pictures or anything like that. They just wanted what brand name clubs I had. Since they are prodominately Cleveland clubs (TA3's, and wedges) I went with that. Guess you could tell them you have Honma. LOL Mine are insured for $3500.
Hope this helps

House insurance will pay for them even if they are stolen from your car. (provided you let your home insurer know)
It seems that car insurance will only pay for what is "part of the car"
IE: cd player & the cd "in" the player but not any additional cd's sitting in the car. Same goes for clothing (leather jacket) & equipment (hockey/golf gear) etc.
I FOUND THIS OUT THE HARD WAY WHEN I HAD MY CAR STOLEN!
I had to make 2 claims - car & then house (both with 2 different companies)
Everyone make sure you know what is covered and where it is covered!

I hate to ask, but are you clubs really worth $3500?
I don't think mine are worth that much, and I have an ego-driven, top of the line OEM-filled bag.
I asked specifically about my golf clubs when setting up my insurance policy. They told me that I don't need a rider since anything under $3000 is ensured. Having your clubs swiped sucks, but shopping for new gear on someone else's dime is fun.

Lets say you have full Titleist clubs. A driver, 3wood and 5wood alone is about $1300, a set of irons will run about $1250, two wedges about $345, plus a Scotty is $460, so you got $3350 plus the bag and anything in it.

As I was reading this I happened to be on the phone with my insurance broker. I asked her about a rider on golf clubs etc.
First thing she told me is most companies will want to see your original bill of sale for your clubs in order to have the proof you even had them.
If you do not have the reciept then you would be wise to take photos of the clubs, write down exactly what you have.
She said if you could go back to where you bought them and have them write out a statement that you had bought your clubs there, and the value of them that would help your cause.
To add a rider onto your clubs, from the company I deal with it costs $2.30 per $100 value for one year. So $2000 clubs would me $46/year and there would be no deductible if they were stolen.
It's a pain boys, I have a friend who had his stolen and it took him a couple of weeks before he got it straightened out. He ended up still spending close to $1000 out of his pocket by time he figured in the deductible and added on the cost above the money the insurance company gave him. His car was stolen, the clubs were in the truck. He got the car back, not the clubs.
I think I am going to start bringing my sticks in from the car every time I play.

My brother in law had his clubs stolen from his car, and he went through his house insurance to claim them. I think he only had a $300 deductable and easily came out on top.
I think he was playing a set of old Titlesit DCI's and they told him to go to a store and find something that was comparable to what they were. He went to GT and they set him up with all new Hogan Apex irons, TM woods, Cleveland wedges, everything at the time that was the best (2 years ago). He even got new Oakley glass, a Sunice rain coat and a few other things as he had those in his bag as well.
I deal with the same insurance company and they are good like that...it's a small Farm Mutual insurance company that really takes care of its clients. One of the bonuses of growing up on a farm!!

They are very close.....in the bag are;
Titleist 983K with Accra (now being replaced with 460 Launcher with Prolaunch)
Ping G5 3wood with NV
Callaway Steelhead III with Prolite
TA3's with Rifle Flighted 5.7
Cleveland 900 gunmetal wedges
and a ping putter.
It doesnt take much, you should start adding up your clubs worth. The $3500 is what I would need to buy a replacement set. They didnt want any receipts, pictures, nothing. I dealt with State Farm for the last 4 years and they treat me very well.
Oh yea.....Titleist Bag

if stolen from your house, or car, or friend's garage, or hotel ... etc.... it all falls under homeowner's (content) insurance.
I would say that it doesn't take too much for the clubs to be worth $3000. Lets say you have full Titleist clubs. A driver, 3wood and 5wood alone is about $1300, a set of irons will run about $1250, two wedges about $345, plus a Scotty is $460, so you got $3350 plus the bag and anything in it.
reasonable replacement value for a golf set assuming all OEM ...
driver $500
3w $300
5w $300
3-PW $1200
SW $200
LW $200
Putter $150
TOTAL $2,850 ...
plus tax ... $3,278 ... so $3,500 is about right.
(forget about the ProV1x's or Nike Ones that were also swiped!)

I guess it's because I never pay full retail for anything anymore. Aside from my irons, everything else was either traded for or bought at half the price or less than it's original cost. What I paid:
Cleveland Launcher 460 - Aldila NV - $200
Taylor Made 200 Steel 3W - Graffaloy Blue - $100 for club and $45 for shaft
Cleveland Halo 3i - Fuji Banzai - $140
Mizuno MP30 4-PW - Flighted Rifles 6.0 - $1050 for irons, $75 for shafts
Mizuno MP 52 GW - Rifle Spinner - included in iron set - $10 for shaft
Taylor Made Y Cutter 56 - Rifle Spinner - $100 for wedge, $10 for shaft
Odyssey White Steel 2ball - Stock Winn grip - $100
New Decade Multicompound Grips - $6 apiece
Sun Mountain bag - $150
Quick math shows me I paid slightly more than $2000. Excluding shafts, everything but the 200 Steel and Y Cutter were new. The driver had been hit only a handful of times.
Where are you people shopping? I guess if you plan on replacing everything with gear from Golftown it could cost you $3500. Does anyone really do that anymore? Boards like this and ebay are great places to get golf gear for a fraction of the price.

my setup costed me about $1000, if i were to replace it with insurance co. $$$ it would be instant and satisfying from GT @ full retail... otherwise it'll take me another two years of hunting online & TGN to rebuild my set.:)

I had my clubs, my cd player, my amp and my subs stolen from my car at the GO Station. Let me tell you it wasn't fun. I got all my money back for my clubs from my parent’s house insurance about $3200 I think it was. I had a few receipts and some picture of me on the Jr. Tours with my clubs. I guess they figured I wasn't screwing them around. Make sure you keep all the receipts that you can when you buy new clubs and make sure you take pictures. Pictures are the best way to prove what you had I would say. Take a picture of the club and a piece of paper that says your name and address in the same picture.

Except for the drivers, all of my clubs in my bag were bought used...so no receipt. Will pics be good enough for the insurers? How much are the deductibles for your typical golf club insurance policy?
At what price point should one consider insurance for golf clubs? The value of my set is likely a lower than most members here. I am guessing around $900-$1000.
Driver: 11* Nickent Genex 425 Forged or 10* Dunlop Loco
3 Wood: TaylorMade 200 Steel
Hybrid: 19* Infiniti CBG35
Irons (3-PW): Kenneth Smith Milled Cavity
Wedges (52/56/60): Raven NearNet Forged
Putter: to be determined
Bag: Belding Enduro stand or Spalding cart

i've bought used 90% of my golf bag as well over several months.
i think the question is,
'if your babies were swiped today, bag n' all, and you needed to play golf this weekend, how much replacement-value $$$ would you need to gear yourself up to a full golf bag again in time to play this weekend?'
i'm guessin' $3,500 for the clubs and another $500 for bag n' balls n' gloves and other stuff noted in a separate thread focused on 'witb' besides clubs and balls.so even though you spent $1K on your golf gear, you'll need insurance totalling about $4K.
