I'm a little miffed this morning, I had my new Launcher 460 reshafted with a ProLaunch 65S, and upon looking at the driver when I got home, I noticed a couple things wrong. First thing I noticed was the grip. I'm a lefty, and when I looked at the grip, it looked like it was "rotated" to the right. Instead of being at 12 o'clock at setup, it was at 1 o'clock! The only thing I can think of what they did was set the face at 12 o'clock and set the grip to that, instead of looking at the club at address and setting the grip to that. I had a problem with fading the ball, somtimes severly on my old driver and 3 wood, only to find out the grip was put on the same way. Its really bad if you use a grip with a reminder.

Second thing I noticed was that it seemed a little long. So I went in down to "manland" (the basement) and pulled out my 983K which I know was at 45". I'll be damned.....the Cleveland was at 46"!! The guy told me the club with the original shaft was around D2 swingweight, so to keep it close to the same swingweight he made it at 46"! WTF?! It originally had a 55g shaft, and I put in a 65g shaft. It should be roughly the same length and swingweight.

Now I have to bring it to another shop to check the swingweight, and possibly get it cut to 45" and buy a new grip to stick on, correctly!

I have also had a couple driver heads "burned" grey/black......I'm starting to think I dont have much luck with fitting my clubs......:help:

Anybody else have any experiences?

Alrighty....may we ask who did this work?

The head that was burned up was not done by the same guy. It was done by a shop just off highway 6, on highway 5. He is now out of busniness.....go figue!! When I got pissed about my burnt 975D, he tried to send it to golfsmith for refinishing, and it went MIA for 4 months! Anyway, thats a different rant in its own right.

This work with the Launcher.....umm, I would hate to give a name because he is a very nice guy and he has had a tour affiliation where alot of people here play on in the past, not sure if he is continueing with it or not this year.

Needless to say I will be going to a shop in Cambridge lunch time today, and doing the swingweight check myself, and the grip install. I should have done this in the beginning.

Edit*, no it wasnt golftown......it was a private shop in Guelph. Should I go back and make him do it right free of charge? I dont really want to confront the guy about it and seem like I'm demeaning him in any way.

you may be doing him a favour. how many potential customers has he lost because he didn't know some people were irate about his work?

Thats true.....but the longer I sit here and think about it, the more pissed I get. Not to mention that when I was talking to him about it, he didnt even recognize the fact he had to tip trim the ProLaunch 1-1/4" for a standard bore........now I'm wondering about the whole install.

I never agree with doing any further action on any subject, without giving a person a chance to rectify.
Rather than heading off, simply approach him, say sorry to come in with some 'concerns' but he has a good rep, and you wanted to discuss them.

Any good clubmaker is not so vain or ego driven, that they are not going to listen to your concerns. Yes, it doesn't work out perfect every time, but business these days is highly word of mouth, and do not want unhappy customer's, especially if legitimate problems.

So he made the club longer to keep the swingweight in check?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHA

Nice work chief.

If he's a nice guy like you say, he should have no problem fixing the problem. I wouldn't hesitate to go back. If he doesn't satisfy you, then post his name up here so that no one else gets suckered.

Ok, just got back from the shop where I had my driver reshafted.....the guy came out with a long steel ruler, put it on the back of the club to the floor, and it came out 45". I took the ruler, ran it down the side of the shaft following it all the way to the floor, and it said 46"......hmmmmmmm. So we measured a Callaway 454 off the rack, and his way it came out to 45"!!!:$

So, I a guess I have to publicly apolgize to the guy who was unnamed......but now I am questioning the length of my 983K which I measured to be 45" and was custom fit by another shop at 45" (so they said)...is it now a 44" driver??

Oh, the grip is still fubar though, but I'll fix that myself.

That makes a little more sense. It was hard to believe that someone in the business of building golf clubs would just arbitrarliy add an inch to a driver in order to get the desired swingweight.

Yes, it does........BUT (LOL), when I took an identical club off the rack (Launcher 460), mind IS almost 1/2" longer.......he said, "hit it and see how it goes.....if you dont like it bring it back and I'll take off 1/2"".

I'm so F***** up now I dont know what the hell to think......

Okay, not to discredit your story but you went from saying the guy told you he went to 46"" to regain the swingweight to it being a 45" as measured by the clubmaker. Which is it? Did he tell you he made it 46" or did you make that part up to support your claim?

Samick, is the shop that you went to on HWY 7 and Watson Rd? Canadian Golf something? If it is, then I can support your claim of them doing terrible club repairs.

Westbeach....

Thats what the guy told me when I asked about it .....so lunch time I went in to check it out myself. We measured the club his way, and it said 45". I measured it my way, which it came out to 46". He measured a Callaway 454 and he got 45" with it. But upon noticing another 460 Launcher on the shelf, I grabbed it and put it next to my club where we noticed my club was 1/2" longer that the stock Cleveland. to which he says, and I quote "...well.....you could always choke down a bit if you wanted to, alot of pros on TV do it. I see them do it all the time". Which he is correct, especially with Sergio.

So as it sits now, I have a 45-1/2" driver with a grip thats on crooked.

Oh, Westbeach.....yea, I made up the part about him telling me he made my driver to 46" to support my claim:rolleyes: Thats what do, try to make up **** to how I see fit.:p

As you might have read, I didnt name the guy because I consider him a very good guy and I didnt want to discredit his business in any way. But no, its not Canadian Golf Wholesalers.

mistakes happen.
its what you do AFTER the mistake that determines your character ... no the mistake itself.
do you take upon yourself ownership as needed?
do you take upon yourself responsibility for fixing the mistake as needed?

good luck!

Umm, theres only ONE way to measure a completed golf clubs' shaft length, not two.

Sit the driver as if its at address (same angle and such), take the steel rule and out it under the shaft with the zero end touching the floor. Take a measurement at the grip end.

You dont change the shaft length to adjust swing weight. Thats stupid. But I do like 46" drivers. :D

I would have made him fix the grip too.

This is all a friendly reminder to send your club work to Swain.

:$ Yea, the way I measured the shaft wasnt correct, that I will admit.

Originally I told him I wanted it at the same swingweight as original (D2) and would prefer a 44-1/2" driver length.

But I digress......

Where is Swain? I'm thinking he is probably a bit of a hike from where I live.

GRT,

This might be true for irons and woods but not true for putters. Different manufacturers measure club length differently. Some will measure from TOP of grip to center of clubface/sweetspot. Others will perscribe to the method you described. I know for a fact, that putters are measured differently for sure.

Swain is tremendously busy just now putting together spring time orders. Give him a couple of days to return your messages unless your looking for part time work. :hush:
