Nice start by Garcia. Wonder if he is due for a big year this year? BTW, which and when is the the first PGA tournament? Are we starved for golf or what? Bring on the BBIII.

Isn't the Mercedes Championships the first tournament of the year for the PGA tour?

Unless I am wrong, it's not an official tournament, it's only for winners of last years tournaments. I haven't checked my facts but I didn't think the tour starts untill February.

i may be wrong, i am just going by this statement on pga.com
The world No. 1 made a strong early statement Thursday in the first round of the season-opening Mercedes Championships...

It is an official tournament.....money won in this tournament counts towards money leader list and world ranking points can be gained.

I would have to agree with you on this statement! Unless you were being sarcastic! ;)
If not for his putting....(31 putts, 17 of them in the front nine...) ....but oh well, still a good score!......:D

VJ starts where he left off, looks like he didn't even miss a step! I heard VJ only took 5 days off during the off season, the rest of the time he continued his daily routine of workouts and going to the range. There was NO off season for VJ!!
Tiger looks good but his putting was suspect. He was complaining of the poor grain on the course. I didn't hear anyone else complain! Els, Serge, even Weir are playing decent.

I am in agreement with noback and Ego. Looks like Tiger is BAAACCCKKK! Focker...even if VJ is playing well I'm sure he is not going to underestimate his competition...Tiger that is. hehee

Weir had an amazing game with his eagle and finishing 10-under 63. Garcia and Kaye posted pretty good games too. Good recovery games. hehee.. hmm...I wonder if VJ is getting scared? haha probably not. He played really solid and that putt from 60 feet was awesome. But the player that I'm rooting for is still Tiger. Yesterday Tiger provided great excitement to finish off his round at -10. If it weren't for him missing his eagle putt and multiple birdie putts he could have at least caught up to Els or even Weir and VJ! Come on TIGER where is your short game?!

Tiger had them right he wants them. In his sights up that leaderboard.;)
Down by 2 after one round. Down by 5 after two rounds. Still down by 5 after three rounds. Gotta love the gamesmanship.:D

I think it will be pretty darn hard for Tiger to comeback and win today. 5 shots is very difficult, but NOT impossible. With the winds blowing opposite of the last 2 days the analyst say it will be very hard to reach the par 5's in 2. This will make the scoring very interesting today. Can't wait. Too bad Weir didn't putt very well in round 3 or else he would have a chance today as well. I'm pulling for Els to win but because I'm a VJ fan, I would like him to win too.
Ego Woods,
Just want to let you know from our conversation about you say VJ always gets a big lead in rounds 1 and 2 and then giving it up on rounds 3 and 4. FYI, VJ has NOT lost any tournaments when leading after round 3 since 2001 and his final round stroke average in 2004 was 69.67, best in the field at the Mercedes. Tiger's final round stroke average in 2004 was 70.43. Of course, doesn't matter how you win, a win is a win and of course all this goes down the dump if VJ lose's tonight. hahaha...

Appleby won again! Pretty amazing since he shot a 74 first round.....
Tiger did pretty well tho!

Focker, Vijay shot 74 today...dropped 4 spots to finish tied for 5th with Adam Scott...
Congrats to Appleby winning the Mercedes Championships.
Woods did well in this tournament, very consistent! 68 68 69 68

Focker, I bet ur eating those words right now. MUAHAHAHA.
First two rounds, VJ shot 66 & 65 respectively. Final two rounds he shot a 69 and 74. Even without his triple bogey yesterday, he still would have shot a 71.
Of course, I know for VJ to win 9 tournaments last year, he had to have played decently on Sat & Sun to be able to win that many.......but if you've noticed like I have in his last few tournaments that he's won, namely the PGA Championship, Buick & BCO, I noticed he rested on his comfortable lead and didn't play too well on a Sunday.

OH, I'm so eating my words right now!! All those stats I pulled out went in down the chute!! Now I'm never going to hear the end of it. I'm sure VJ will bounce back strongly. I'm not worried. A 69 stroke average on Sunday for all of 2004 is NOT resting comfortably on a lead, granted he did not shoot well at the PGA, Buick and BCO. A win is a win!

Not sure where you get this from, Ego Woods.
He certainly relied on a comfortable lead at the PGA Championship, but at the Buick Open he had a 2-stroke lead on John Daly going into the final round and shot a 67 (-5) on Sunday to win by one. That's hardly resting on a comfortable lead and 67 is a good score on ANY day.
Singh never had a lead at the BCO. Mike Weir led after the 2nd and 3rd rounds, and Singh caught him on the 18th hole on Sunday and then beat him in a playoff. Singh's final round was 69 (-3) on a course where the final winning score was 9 under. I'd say that's playing pretty well on a Sunday.

I'm not going to dispute that, but I'm just noting what I see when I watch tv (adhoc and not very statistical)...that his Sat and Sun scores are higher than Thurs and Fri...(granted some of it maybe because it's Sunday pin locations!)
BCO he shot 68-66-72-69.
And I said the Buick, but I'm sorry, I meant the Deutsche Bank against Tiger Woods (dunno why I thought it was the Buick, since I remember that showdown against Daly like it was yesterday!)
In that tournament he shot 68-63-68-69
Where does this all get me you ask? Basically a free dinner! Because I bet my friend that Tiger will finish ahead of Vijay in the Mercedes using my theory that VJ will shoot higher scores on Sat on Sun. It may not be very scientific, but it got the job done for me. :D
