I got all my stuff from golf smith today to reshaft my driver and 4 wood. Grafalloy Blue R for my driver and a Grafalloy pro launch 75 s for my 4 wood. I went to clamp my new blue driver shaft at the butt end in the rubber holder in the vice. I guess I clamped it a little too hard because the thing cracked. Now there is about a 6 inch crack at the butt end of the shaft. It's about 3 or 4 inches from the top of the butt and running down about 6 inches. I guess I will be buying an other shaft because I doubt that they would return it for me because it was my own fault. Oh I reshafted my 4 wood no problem though. I am so mad at my self lol.

Hi felsteinb
I know how you feel. I had to ship a set of custom clubs to GA, USA and 30 hours before the promised shipment I was gripping the driver with an Aldila ONE and cracked it. First 1 in 9 years and totally my fault. Good job I had a new shaft in inventory and I made the shipment. Won't happen again they are too expensive to ruin. Too bad yours was one of the first ones you worked with. At least I went 8 years before I broke my first one. Easier to do now that ultralights are getting real light due to their thin walls.
The crack in the shaft would be under the grip right? The shaft is for your own club? If so, epoxy another shaft section (with paint removed) or a wooden dowel plug down the butt end of the shaft in the region of the crack. Will add some wt to the shaft, but at least the shaft can be salvaged for your own bag.
How did your new Kennedy Shaft Puller work?

Would this change the stiffness of the shaft or the way it hits?

I took another look at the shaft today. I have to cut down the club 2.5inches to get it to 45 inches. The line (split) in the shaft would be about 2 inches from the butt of the club and goes down about 4 inches. It would pretty well be right in the center of the grip. It looks like a little white line when I run my fingers nails over the line it fell smooth and my nail does not get cut. When I try to bend and wiggle the shaft it doesn't feel like it is weak and there is no sound coming from the line. Do you think that this shaft would still be ok to play? Given that it would be right under the grip? Or do you think that this would affect the shaft? I don't want to invest in another shaft unless this is going to heart my game in anyway.

Hi felsteinb
Find an old graphite shaft pull out and then fab an inside repair section that is a tight fit when you slide it down to its final resting spot. Maybe 4 inches long and use a little epoxy. It will probably be less than 10 grams heavier but shouldn't affect play much since its all located in the end of grip area.
I've seen Dynamic Gold steel shafts break right through the grip section due to internal rust caused from the Sensicore, so there is stress in this area.
I wouldn't do this to someone elses club just your own to save a few $'s.

I don't really want to add weight. If the worset that could happen is it breaks then thats no big deal. I just don't want it to affect say my ball flight or distance. Also I had it PUREed and I don't know if that would change it PURE spot either.

If you want the best of the best than you have no choice but to relpace the shaft. Other wise, send your old shaft to me and I'll cut down way shorter and make a cheap kids wood shaft for some kid and give him a club to play with.
