Is there any rule that says you cannot mark your tee? I was wondering whether or not I could mark a tee to make sure I tee the ball up at the same height every time.
I've never seen anyone else do this so that is why I'm wondering.

If a tee is conforming to begin with, adding a colored on mark couldn't make it non-conforming ... as far as I know, for a tee to be non-conforming it has to be a structural issue (shape, materials etc)

You can actually buy tees that are premarked, depending on the size of your driver head. I use the yellow/white ones.

Why spend the extra $$ for marked tees when the perfect ball height marker was given to you at birth? Your hands.
Grab your ball and tee and tee it up like you normally would to the approximate height, extend your fingers and touch the tip of your fingers to the ground next to your tee, note the height of the ball to the creases/joints of your fingers. Takes all of a second to verify, after teeing up a few balls, you'll start getting used to the height and it becomes even faster.
...well, unless you like sitting around with a marker and box of tees. :D
