In another thread (http://www.torontogolfnuts.com/showthread.php?t=640) Jaydog mentioned Grey Silo (http://www.city.waterloo.on.ca/RL/FacilityServices/GreySilo/), a municipal course in Waterloo. This made me curious as to what other Municipal golf courses people have played, and their thoughts on the matter?
I've played Roseland (http://www.citywindsor.ca/000556.asp) in Windsor, and Van Cortland Park (http://www.nycgovparks.org/sub_your_park/vt_van_cortlandt_park/vt_van_cort_10.html) in the Bronx NY.
Roseland was a fine course, in great condition when I played, and there was no issue getting a tee time.
Van Cortland Park was super fun to play, similarly no problem getting a tee time, and the locals there are really friendly and outgoing. Best of all, you can get there by subway, so no matter where you're staying in NYC, it's accessible.

Is there not a course in Nova Scotia that Parks Canada brought back to life a couple of years ago that was course of the year? I think it is a muni course.
Many of the course's in PEI are owned, or are a partnership with the private sector. I have also posted a review of the course's I have played down there here (http://www.torontogolfnuts.com/showthread.php?t=545).
Some of the courses in London Ontario are quite nice. I am going ot have to look through my old score cards to make note of those, and I will.

Kings Forest in Hamilton is a muni course and very very nice, good value too. It would be up there with Lakeview.

I was #55 or 56 on Golf Digest's top 100 worldwide courses. I don't think it would be considred a muni though. It's provincially or federally owned. Crowbush is provincially owned.
With a little work, King's Forest could be Canada's answer to Bethpage Black. It's a tough layout that could be extremely demanding given a little TLC.

Mississauga is just about to re-open the Britannia Hills course, it's now called BraeBen Golf Course and it looks like it will be a good place to play a round. They also opened a 9 hole par 3 that can be played for $20.00....

I would have to say that Lakeview in Mississauga is a great value for a municipal course. The course is in great shape and very challenging. Just needs better putting and chipping area.
Kings Forest is my favourite, as you need the driver to score well there. Play it from the blues and its 6800......long yards. Played there twice this year and course is in great shape....just needs a little water.

The City of Kitchener owns 2 courses, Doon Valley and Rockway. I have played both but not for a couple of years, they are ok and reasonably priced. Rockway is a shorter course and is usually slow.

I have been a member at King's Forest and both courses at Chedoke in the past. All muni courses in Hamilton. While Chedoke Martin is one of the oldest courses around it kind of sucks. It is the type of full length course most people learn to play on. There are some difficult holes and the rough can be brutal but over all it's not good but it's only $30 at most and I played it last year for old times sake for like $18 twi.
The Chedoke Beddoe is a much better course, and therefore more expensive, than the martin but it still isn't very good either. There aren't really that many difficult holes and its a fairly uneventfull course. It has been exactly the same for as long as I can remember and last year when I played you can tell they are hurting for money. I should mention that I have played the combination of these two courses over 500 times in the 4 years and I wouldn't suggest anyone travel a fair distance to play them. If you are in the area already, a shot at the twilite rates might not hurt.
Kings Forest is another story. This is a great course for a muni course and in general. If Hamilton decided to back this course or sell it, it has real potental. Having not played Grey Silo or Lakeview yet I can't compare but it would be worth the drive if its within an hour or so. Plus I can bet it is much cheaper and senic than TO courses of the same quality.
I have also played Tyandaga, Burlington's muni course. This place isn't as good as Kings Forest but much better than Chedoke. It's less than $50 peak and worth the drive from TO. It can't be more than 35 min from say the CNTower. This is one of those courses where simply having never played will greatly inflate your average score as I found out two weeks ago. There are many reachable par 4s and a few wierd holes in there too. This is not really a course you are going to want to walk however.
Over all King's Forest is the best but also the farthest away. Probably worth the drive at least once if for nothing else to get away from TO prices and at least get your $50 worth.

I think Tyandaga is better than most courses around Burlington like Lowville, Indian Wells and Camisle. I wouldn't put in the same class as Crosswinds, Century Pines or Carlise though. I enjoyed my round there dispite suffering greatly from having not played. If you hit big you need to be carefull on a few of the holes like 8 I think. 320 yard dog leg left but its like 280 then a sharp left. I drove right past the bend and into the forest and got a 7. I never would have hit driver if I knew what was ahead. I would recommend twilite for this course cause I think its one of those love or hate courses. The only thing I really didn't like about this place was that there are houses way to close to some of the holes. I generally hit power fades and was so worried about hitting a house I would end up hooking it. This won't be a problem for anyone with control though. I definitly plan on playing there again and think I will be able to score much better second time around.
