i went to a par 3 course on saturday to warm up for golf season, and i was put in a group with a twosome, so that made 3 of us. After then 11th hole he needed to go to the washroom, we woud've waited for him becasue i'm nice and the other guy was his friend, but instead he just peed near this storage house
i mean, peeing on a golf course, what was he thinking, i hope that next time i go i won't be paired up with that kind of behaviour because that is really really bad, both to the golf course and the enviroment

So let me ask you this. If you are on a course, that has no washrooms (most don't, some have Porti Potties) and you have to make a nature call, where do you go? If you are at the back of the course, a long way from the clubhouse where do you go?
Can you hold it in for another 9 holes?
I know I can't.
I was once golfing with a lady, in the middle of the summer. Our course had 2 Porti Potties at the time. I went in one, and it was like an oven in there. I came out and she was laughing because the sweat was running off my face. She said and I quote "Why did you just not go behind the damn porti pottie instead of inside it?"
So she surely would not have been offended if I had. My course doesn't have many trees, so it is kind of hard to hide behind one:rofl: But we all manage somehow. :) I have golfed for 25 years and I have never offended anyone by making a pit stop on the course.

With some discretion in mind, and also cognizant of the fact that i don't know the specifics of the mentioned circumstance, I don't get offended if someone has to go. If anything, your prostate is healtier for not holding on for long periods. Can't object to a legitimate health concern.

Are you really suggesting that peeing on the golf course is bad? If so I'd be interested to hear some arguments. I and pretty much anyone I've ever played with, women included, have peed on a golf course. Does it really hurt the golf course and environment? I'd have thought the opposite?

Like Titan, I don't see a problem, as long as you use discretion. Of course, I've been out, and had a friend use poor discretion right next to the tee block. Very disturbing

If peeing on the golf course is bad for the environment, then I wonder how you feel about guys putting fertilizer, pesticides and other chemicals to keep the course you play on green.

OK lets have a raise of hands... Who peed on the golf course... come on I know you did, I know I did!!!
If you never did, then you:
1, play 2-3 rounds of golf per year,
2. usually play in spring and fall when you don't need to consume large amounts of liquid refreshments (like last summer)
3. never play with buddies who smuggle a case of beer in their bag
4. play on a course with at least 6-7 portable toilets
5. are afraid that some one will see your wanker
I have even seem women going in to the bush to relieve them self (not that I was paying too much attention), let alone men. When nature calls and there are no toilets in the area, YOU GO and don't ask questions. Just be discreet.

Are you f***ing kidding me? How is it bad for the environment? there are a million times more animals on earth then humans, where do you think they go to the washroom? I can understand urinating in the middle of the green or on the tee box would be rediculous, but to rant about someone peeing away from the actual course (beside the storage shed), is crazy. Man you need to relax. Have you never peed outside, better yet on a golf course? I think this should be a new poll thread. I bet 99.9% of the users on this forum have peed on a golf course atleast once. I for a fact just did so myself earlier today, in broad daylight, beside a bunker! (not in it).

Bob_33, I think you should unwind a little on htis subject:cool:
I think you will be in a minority here. I too have playiong for almost 30yrs and have NEVER releived myself in "go hut" on the course. If I'm not near the clubhouse, it's in the bushes for me. Let's just hope its' not a links style course.:D
Btw...... do the animals that live on the course have a bathroom that we can use???

Here're my randome thoughts on this topic:
- Yes, I do relieve myself in the bushes or trees when I have to
- I will never do that if there's a lady in the group. I just reduce my fluid intake and take a break after 9 holes if I must go
- Something I learned: Do not pee uphill (it is not a matter of taking an extra 'club'); do not pee into the wind (low flying stinger won't work in this instance); do not pee when there are unfamiliar or strange looking plants around
I was once in a corporate best-ball tournament and there was a lady in the group, and her boss was in the group as well. Both the other gent and I were in our best behavior in the lady's presence throughout. On the 14th hole, she decided to go into the trees to take a 'free relief'. My thought was 'she is comfortable with the group and perhaps a bit of a free spirit'. Then her boss proceeded to follow her into the trees. Of course, I did not ask what happened given that they are the customers

Good ones.
A little story to add to your "cutomers" story.
We were drinking heavily the night before a round at our home course many years ago, when a buddy went into the portapotty near the tee on the 7th hole. After a few minutes of him doing his business, we left and he came out as we were already waqlking down the fairway and were near the green.
By the time he caught up to us on the green, he had to go again and couldnt wait till the turn, so down into the bushes behind the 8th tee he went. But not before asking a lady in the group ahead of us for some cleenex. His Never forgotten words of the day were...................Thanks lady, you just saved me a pair of underwear"

I don't have a problem with people relieving themselves behind a tree or bush, as long as it's done discretely. If you're doing to wait until the whole 4some is ready and all do it in the middle of the fairway so you can compare notes, NOT GOOD!

Thats funny because its true! - if you ever see clothing - ie. socks, shirts or even golf towels in or near the bush STAY FAR AWAY!
Anyone who has ever eaten McDonald's in the morning before a round of golf knows that you'll be pinching one within the hour or so.:help:
I was playing behind a guy wearing shorts and knee-high socks and he ran into the bush in the middle of a par 5 - after waiting 5-10min for them to move on he comes running out of the bush without any socks - am i glad i didnt slice one there!

After further reflection, I was playing some high school golf in Minnesota and there was a rule within the conference that if you peed in the bushes that you received a 2 stroke penalty... it was among other odd "sportsmanship" rules, such as no cursing and whatnot...
Needless to say, not too many guys called each other on it, but there was definately the odd time that it was called out.

I have to agree with the majority on this one as well. I golf 4 to 5 times a week and often golf with men. Most of the men simply 'disappear' for a moment when the time is righyt and reappear with a more comfortable look on their faces. They don't announce to the women that they are headed off to 'pee'...
I have also had the opportunity to use the port-a-potties. Ugh! Think I'd much rather disappear behind it myself than have to use that. :)

Look,
1) If you have to go after a couple of drinks and you can't hold it....then there's something wrong with YOUR bladder!:D
2) If there aren't enough washrooms/porta potties/etc on a golf course then the owners need to know this. Peeing in a public place is not only disgusting, it's illegal!
p.s.
ONLY IN AN ABSOLUTE EMERGENCY should you relieve yourself.
C'mon guys...this is a gentlemen's game, THE ENTIRE EXPERIENCE! IMO, golf is more than just hitting a ball....it's a life time of experiences, life learnings and a model of how sport and sportsmanship should be.
Is peeing on a golf course something you would teach your children as okay? As soon as this becomes acceptable behaviour, it will become less and less "discreet".

Just, I can understand your feelings in this. There's a large number of people who would be upset at the thought of someone relieving themselves in public. Before being stationed in the Far East, I suppose I was one of them as well. But one thing I learned over there was that it's a normal bodily function. Some of the locatios I was in had so few "relief stations" that people just found a discreet place and let go. Even if someone saw them in the act, not many people really paid any attention because it was considered "natural". The only people who objected were "westerners".

Hey I already knew this without going to the far east.:D
But seriously I also beleive that peeing on the golf course is gross. It seems like alot here just take it for granted that they can hang it out on the course and have every excuse as to why they should be able to. If women can hold it why can't men? I think every precaution should be taken to avoid this. I guess if you really have to go then its better than going in your pants. You usually only have to go 9 and then your back at the club house before going to the back 9. Unless your a terribly slow golfer I'm sure most should be able to hold it for the 2 hours (or less) that it takes to play 9
And so what if there is? Are you saying that those of us with bladder or gastrointestinal disabilities are not allowed to play golf? Just because we want to pee while we play?
Most courses I have played have a johnny on the front 9 and one on the back. Plus after the front 9 your usually led back to the club house. So you have 4 or 5 holes in between each pit stop. If your going more than that, than yes maybe you should give up golf until you address those problems. If your going that much then your holding up the group behind you.

But....I also understand the urge when you're concentrating so hard on the game you aren't thinking about that big green box and you miss it. Now suddenly it's urgent!! I can't believe one would get bent out of shape for someone peeing on a golf course. You never go out partying one night with the boys and on the ride home, need to relieve yourself so badly you are practically BEGGING for the DD to pull over so you can go on the side of the road?
Want to talk about something that REALLY drives me crazy on the golf course?
1: People who smoke and chuck their butts all over the place.
2: People who eat and throw their garbage into the bushes or drop it wherever they see fit.
3: People who get wasted on the golf course like it's a backyard party, scream and yell like a 2 year old child and litter their opened beer cans they snuck onto the course where they see fit.
4: People who have no sense of the meaning of the word "etiquette" and think that taking your sweet time is OK because they paid $100 to play and should be able to enjoy the entire day out in the sun.
And here we are, worried about some guy who took a PEE on the golf course.....give me a break already.

Holding in will simply damage your bladder and can lead to prostate cancer in later stage in life.

If everyone took that casual approach the course would be full of people peeing in the woods while I'm sitting at the tee waiting. because I can wait 4 or 5 holes to the next pit stop. The rest of what you mentioned can be quite bother some and characteristic of someone who has no problem hanging it out any time the feel a little urge. On your 4th point, etiquette and hanging your wanger out at a golf course just don't seem to go together. Is it not a gentlemens game anymore or is it now deemed gentlemen to hang your wanger out on the golf course?

I think you're a little off topic there bud. All of the things you listed are problems TOO! No one in their right mind would deny that. PEEING should also be on that list!
As long as Willy is not out in display, peeing on golf courses is akin to giving back to the land as long as it is done discreetly, and without lady's presence.
Holding in will simply damage your bladder and can lead to prostate cancer in later stage in life.
Oh I see....so you'd hold it in if a lady were present?...hmmm...I think you're contradicting yourself there....holding it in for a lady is holding it in...isn't it?:$

No one said you should just haul er out while you stand beside a Tee Box or a green, or the middle of the fairway. My god you guys are prudes if someone having a whiz in the bushes bothers you. With exception to my slow play comment, I think I'm right on topic of this thread which is meant to discuss bad behaviour on a golf course. Your point however, of someone taking something as natural and harmless as a PEE is just ridiculous.

a) Would you pee in your backyard, behind a tree?...
b) Would you pee in the boulevard behind some bushes?
c) Would you pee in an alley behind a restaurant?
If you've answered yes to any of these questions (with the exception of emergencies) then you have a problem.
With the exception of a) the previous are public places....so is a golf course. Nobody wants to tread through your urine...and I'm including you.
USE A BATHROOM, like the rest of our civilized society.
1) In an emergency use the woods
2) If there aren't enough facilities on a course for you....talk to the management group.

YOU HAVE ANSWERED YOUR OWN QUESTION, IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU ARE ON THE 4TH HOLE AND HAVE TO TAKE A LEAK ARE YOU GOING TO TRY TO HOLD IT IN FOR ANOTHER HOUR?
Treading in urnine, oh that is just rich. Does it not soak into the GROUND?

The problem is that when public urination is allowed (which by city ordinance is usually illegal) you've got the doe heads that can't be discreet enough to properly sheild themselves from those of us that do not wish to witness this public display of ignorance. I've been on one course where my wife and I were playing where the fairways were fairly narrow. While down our fairway we happenned on a person coming up the other fairway. He made sure he was deep enough in to the trees not to be seen from his fairway but in close enough where he was distastefully visible enough to us. Yeah sure its only the selct few with no sense but if there were a course wide ban on the whole problem we wouldn't have to be subjected to this ever. This urination thing should be the rare exception but I think most here are defending there right to regular urination rights on the golf course. Racmbs seems to find fault with the fact that just123123 has taken such a strong stand against this but it seems to be quite alright for Racmbs to have as equally a stand in opposition.

Last I checked in this thread I wasn't the only one who felt that whining about peeing on a golf course was ridiculous, so don't single me out sighting I'm the only one who finds fault in it. just123123 and yourself feels strongly about those that pee on golf courses and are against it and we feel strongly that there is nothing wrong with it. Funny how you are the only two taking such a stand over something as trivial as urinating on a golf course. Are you two trying to tell us that in all the years you've NEVER done anything quite like this? If not, you must be both complete angels......

Sure, use some discression, for example, dont take a wizz in the middle of number 14 fairway while standing next to your golf cart.
Let me ask you, if you were EVER out in nature, hiking, hunting, farming, fishing, bike riding, whatever.....and you had to take a leak, you would haul *** to the nearest porta-potty..........bang on the door of the first house you found so you could take a leak? (which by the way could be 5 miles)

What about the fact that golf courses are where most people don't think twice about drinking and driving? I am not saying that it is condoned or encouraged by majority of the golfers. However, it is where it seems to be socially acceptable.

I'm sorry if you feel my position on this is some sort of crusade to stamp out public urination. My views are simply my contribution to this subject that was started in a discussion forum. I don't hand out flyers or hang pictures of perpetrators at the post office. It seems its you who is getting excited. Somewhat threatened by opposition. My stand is that if it is looked on by many as a casual occurrence and an excepted behaviour then its not long before you have many who decide to cut corners and feel they can hang it out anywhere. I've already seen inapropriate behaviour and I've only been golfing since April. I know myself very well, and I know how long I can hold it. The courses that I frequent or have been to have adequate facilities. I'm not saying that I may not ever have a time that it may stirke me.
You say I'm making a big deal of it and I just can't understand the big deal of being able to hold your self for maximum 9 holes. Yeah ok if their is a course that has absolutely no facilities for a complete 18 and no way to even visit the clubhouse in between then you've got maybe somewhat of a case.
If you think that this debate is so ridiculous why didn't you just delete the thread? Or was it supposed to be understood that no one should oppose the urinaters?

Not all golf courses have the 9th hole backing onto the clubhouse where you can make a pit stop. Take Paris Grand......the 9th hole is a 'mile' away from the clubhouse, and in the total oposite direction of the 10th tee. So what do you do after its 30*C out, and you just drank 2 bottles of water?? No porta potties around.....etc.........what do YOU do? Just curious.

As I said I'm not opposing the complete ban of urination. If there is a course where adequate facilities are not present you have 2 choices. Don't frequent that course or do what you have to when your out there. I also have choices. If I'm on a course where I don' t like the conduct of behaviour, I can either not frequent that course or put up with it. There are many courses to choose from. I don' t mind travelling around. Infact I enjoy it. I will always try ot frequent the courses that provide adequate facilities. As I find that being forced to go outside is degrading to myself. Now when I say that that doesn't mean I would'nt do it if I absolutely had to. But I wouldn't like it either. The course I frequent most on a weekly basis has adequate facilities. One on the front nine one on the back nine and the clubhouse in between. Its one of things I like about it and its a consideration for courses that I play.
If I was ever invited to play a course with a group and it didn't have adequate facilities then it comes down to either in my pants or in the bushes. Of course its in the bushes.

If a guy (or girl) wants to take a 5 or 10yd walk into the bush to relieve themselves thats perfectly fine with me. If anyone is going to complain about people peeing in the bush on a golfcourse - take up basketweaving - you'll never have to worry about urine.

Its evident you would rather sit here and argue with anyone not in line with your way of thinking. Its not the urine on the ground I care about its the supposed civilized human beings that act like the foxes dear and any other animal you refer to. If that is the level they wish to be identified with fine. Its really not that big a deal. I thought I was allowed to express an opinion. That was mine. Instead I find a bunch that just want to drag this down in to a silly immature argument because they lack the skills to allow anyone else an opinion.

What I find disturbing at this forum is not the fact that people like to urinate on golf courses. Its that attitude towards someone who has an opinion about something different than them. I never brought it up and never would have. I'm more concerned about things like inconsiderate people purposley driving balls of the tee at people in front of them. But the subject was brought up and I regretfully contributed my opinion. There are lots of things I have an opinion on that I don't give much thought or worry to unless asked.
I imagine there are probably more that think likewise but avoid the trouble of immature individuals wanting to defend thier right to do whatever it is they want to do by lobbing insults.

Well I guess I was being mature enouigh to let a seemingly contentious issue to rest. It seems that others could not reciprocate by letting the thread slip in to oblivion. I guess this is indicactive of the type of character here. I don't expect that people on discussion forums will always agree but its nice to expect that people can express thier opinions honestly without being ridiculed or dragged in to a childish spat by insults that involve other parties wives. I find lots of information useful here that will help me improve my game and have no problem lurking, while keeping my comments to myself. I'm sure that you will have frightened others in to keeping thier opinions to themselves as well. Unless of course those opinions follow popular consensus of the majority.
I will continue not to pass judgment on those that wish to Irrigate thier favorite course as it is far from my philosophy to impose my standards or public morals on anyone else. As well I will continue to avoid being in a situation that I deem uncomfortable for me. And as I had originally said, if I were ever caught having to relieve my self in the open then I would hope that either I am able to succesfully camouflage my location or elicit understanding from my fellow golfers.

If men can continue to pee on a golf course, then I say 'let her squat all she wants'.....:D
I once played at Greystone in a corporate tournament, a rather attractive lady in the group went into the bush to relieve herself, her boss went in after her. The remaining two of us just pretended that we didn't even notice. Right after, we both send in job applications to the same company as these two, but have yet to hear from their recruitment office....;)

I had lunch once by myself in a foodcourt downtown. Next to me were two guys, one of which was telling a story: it was about a corporate golf tournament where they were drinking beer on the course and some of them had to pee on the fairways (apparently there weren't too many trees around, or they were too drunk). The guy was upset that marshalles showed up and ended their fun. I was horrified. This was not just a breach of golf ettiquette, but just disgusting.

Some guys were born with an orifice for a brain.
Two guys approach a foursome at the halfway house and shout out"you don't mind if we play through do you? "There's only us two and we play fast" one guy says.
One of the women in the mixed foursome agrees to let them through.
Having her consent they walk over to the house and order food. The order takes long enough that the foursome is now waiting on them. After several minutes the foursome decides to go ahead since it doesn't look like the two guys will be ready anytime soon. The men hit and make their way to the ladies teebox when the two guys stroll up and make as if they are ready to hit.One guy shouts to the foursome and rudely holds out his arms as if to say, "WTF I thought you were letting us thru"?
The foursome actually moved aside and it almost got cost them when the first fellow duck hooked a low screamer through their carts.
I couldn't restrain myself any longer and shouted over"way to go A-hole".
