Well I just got my tee time for my Toronto Star Armature qualifier. I am playing Victoria Park East in Guelph on June 14th at 8:20am. I have never played the course nor have I played in a Toronto Star Armature so any advice regarding both the qualifier or the course would be greatly appreciated. I can't wait to play competitive golf again I miss it so much.

Hey felsteinb,

I play that course quite often and know it like the back of my hand. My general thoughts are that if you get through the first 5 holes relatively unscathed, you should be ok. The 18th hole has got to be one of the best finishing holes I have played since I moved here almost 5 years ago. Dogleg right, huge ceder trees guarding the corner and I think 400yds long. Pond well short right of the green should not come into play, but your second shot is to an elevated green with a very sharp drop off in front.

I could probably write hole by hole in where the trouble is, and what the carry yardage is of the trouble, where to hit your ball for the best look at the green, but I wont bother to bore others here with that. If you wish me to do so........(or if you need a caddy), let me know.

Thanks a lot Samick. That helps, I was looking on the website and they have a hole by hole description as well but it's not all that detailed. May be we would play we sometime before and you can show me the way.

hey, not a problem. Let me know when you want to go and I'm there. It would be good to go there on a twilight ($30). I may have some time to go later this week.....all next week I will be off on holidays, but not in the country. The week after that I will have off as well and I will be in the area.

Its a very nice track, fantastic greens and fairways.

In terms of the qualifier part, While ur playing, do ur best not to think about what ur score is, just keep thinking about how their gunna take like 20 players from ur qualifying site and all u have to do is play ur game and u'll get in no problem, just keep thinking u have a couple of shots to work with regardless of wut ur at (though +4 is prob the highest u'll be able to go). Dont be ballsy, just play conservative to keep it around E as much as possible, and if u have to take a bogey take it, dont put urself in a spot where double is even possible. Ive never played the course but hopefully it sets up well for you and u get in. Good Luck hope u qualify and Ill see you at Cedar Brae :) :)

Thanks for the advice; I will be thinking about that on the first tee. I am going to try and play the course a few times so I have a feel for it. I am just happy to get back into completive golf again. The last tourney I have been in was a few year ago.

silkysmooth88 I am actually not a member at Lionhead and I am not sure how they put me as a member there. I am actually not a member anywhere. The pro sponsored me from Crosswinds GC and that's how they were able to confirm my handicap. I wish I was a member there.
