I started playing golf about 2 years ago and till this season I used a noob baseball grip, I changed to the cross fingered grip and I have been playing golf 6-7 days a week for the past 3 weeks. My right pinky finger is in mad pain for the past 2 days and I think I made it worse golfing 3 rounds yesterday!!! Just wondering if this is a common golf injury, taking today off for rest :(

it sounds like you were getting away with a pretty tight grip before. now that you're switched to the interlocking grip, this bad habit has become a hindrance.

grip pressure should be a 4 out of ten, where 1 is as light as possible, and 10 is as tight as possible.

Playing that much golf, I am surprised that only your fingers are hurting...

Here are some suggestions for possible cures for two of your ailments.

1. Check your grip pressure. As stated above, it should be around 4 with 1 being the lightest. I agree with the old saying: hold the club like a baby bird, strong enough to not let it escape but light enough not to hurt it (or yourself!). Another possible solution is grip size: if you have larger than average hands, you may be gripping too tight because you may feel like you can't control the club. Have your grips checked with a qualified club fitter to make sure you have the correct size (thickness) grips.

2. You may be over-rotating your left ankle (I'm assuming you play right handed), which could mean you're shifting your weight on your downswing to the far-outside of your left leg. Try to point your left foot about 30-40 degrees toward your target. This will help prevent this over-shift and ease the pressure on your ankle.

Wow thanks for all the info, well appreciated.
