I took off at 5 pm to play a round at some west end course. Along the way, there were some heavy traffic jam due to some rather serious accident on QEW. Anyhow, it took me an hour to get to the course with a co-worker.

After I checked in, I went to the bar to pick up some gatorade, there were 3 dudes spending an inordinate amount of time chatting up the girl behind the counter. After I bought my drink and proceed to the 1st tee, the starter recommend that we start out at the 10th tee because it is more 'open'. Seeing that there were 4 guys on the 1st fairway searching for Easter eggs on the rough, we decided to oblige.

Lo and behold the 3 dudes was still on the tee box of the 10 yapping. Waited 10 minutes after they hit their tee shots and their provisionals, we proceeded to take our swing. While addressing the ball, a cart pulled up unannounced, out came an older dude and a younger guy in Oakley and R7 cap (unfortunately, the give away is his Top Flite 'Super Dry ClimateCool Lycra shirt). They proclaimed that they are with the 3 dudes in front of us and invited themselves to join my 2-some.

Of course, they proceeded to whacked their balls all over the place. The older dude was giving advise and telling often-heard jokes, while Mr.Cool was supposedly a beginner (I believe that because he almost hit me twice in one hole). After the 5th hole, my 2-some decided to jump back to the front 9. We just walked away without acknowledging them.

My observation was: if you don't display general well rounded etiquette and keep up, your attempt to be a comedian is just aggrevating.

Secondly, my question is: If you went into the clubhouse to get a beverage and food, do you lose your spot on the course? What is the generally acceptable rules here?

Most of the courses that I play at have a sign after the 9th green stating that if you lose your turn if you're not on the 10th tee in a specified period of time, usually 5 minutes.
As for the comedian, I'd politely ask him to play golf and allow me to enjoy my game in peace. If he continued, I'd either jump a hole (if that's available) or drop back. If there's someone behind me, I'd blame the comedian for the delay ("They are members and wanted to play ahead").

Last year I got into a pushing and showing match with some jack *** that was ahead of us, but decided to take a 15. minute break at half-way house.

When we finished our 9th we proceeded straight to the 10th... there was a threesome teeing off. We went right after them, but as soon as we made our shots and were leaving a tee box foursome that originally was ahead of us showed up and demanded that we let them play through. You can guess what I told them!

Rule for the 10th tee is simple, "first to the tee box, first on".

generally speaking, a group playing through (played front nine first and is headed to 10th) has the right of way ahead of a group just starting the 10th.

this assumes that both groups show up at the T box around the same time and neither group has yet to hit any balls.

otherwise, first up is first to show.
