So, the Golf Channel thought they could just show us a constant stream of Wei and Woods and we'd just keep on watching like the sheep that we are....
NOT!!!
Now they are being demoted to the distant digital channels for the terminal couch potato. A good riddance, say I.:)

I haven't heard anything about TGC going to the digital package.

I glanced at the article in the paper...does this mean we have to pay for it since it's now digital???
(it's moved to channel number 400 and something)

I've been watching it on Rogers for a long time. I didn't read the newspaper article. Is is supposed to be withdrawn from regular broadcast stations?

If that's true, that's not gonna make me happy.
Not that I'm happy with Rogers right now anyway. (i.e., LIMITED BANDWITH!!!)

Are we talking digital or HD? I get the sense we're talking digital. Big difference. IMO, it would be a bad move for TGC to go to the HD package. With Expressview, you have to at least get the sports package to get TGC. It wouldn't make any sense for them to go HD and lose the vast majority of their viewing audience.

They don't have any HD content unless they rebroadcast the last couple Masters 24/7.
TGC has become virtually unwatchable for me.

For further conversation on all of this, go see the blog by Bob Weeks - he has 3 items on this (Mon, Tues, and Wed of this week) and it seems like he was the first one to mention this story. It sure has generated a lot of comments - the most of any item he has posted I believe.

If it does go through, it will at least help me with my goal of reducing the amount of TGC I watch - it will go down to zero!

Robert Thompson has posted this as well in his blog. I have Rogers and am PO as I will need to get two digital terminals. I may have to rethink my Rogers use.

Sounds like it's just a Rogers issue not a Golf Channel issue. It doesn't mention TGC getting moved on any other cable or satelite system.

I got a notice from Rogers the other day, TGC will be moved to channel 410 in early July.
I think you only need the digital box to get TGC on channel 410. Currently, I can change to channel 410 and the TGC is aired. I'm assuming we don't have to pay for it (other than a digital box, if you don't have one).

If what you mean is that you don't like TGC programming, then I ask, WHERE else can you watch the European Tour, The LPGA, The Nationwide Tour, and even The Canadian(?) Tour?
Not TSN or SportsNet! :(

The digital box and dish will cost roughly the same.

Currently I'm paying $65 for digital VIP package (no Movies channels) but I was able to split the cable so I can watch analog Channels on another TV. This change means I can only watch TGC in my living room - or have to get another digital box...

I just hope they upgrade the crappy picture eventually. My expressvu pkg claims all digital channels, all look good, except GC always looks crappy. I also have a 52 inch dlp tv so it looks even worse.
When I switch from the unbelievable high def channels over to GC I wince.

I went to the website ... TGC is going to be a pay-for-channel. It can be part of the Ultimate Sports Pak - or you can purchase it as a single channel.

Its not HD either as some have hoped.

I read where Weeks said that his contact told him that TGC was being moved because it didn't attract many viewers. I think that's BS. I believe that Rogers is moving TGC to the digital package because they believe that TGC viewers and golf fans will move to the digital package especially now that TGC will be airing tour events next year.
If we are to believe that rogers wants to free up the spot occupied by TGC for something else then I would suggest that they move another station such as BET or any of the foreign language stations.
Don't kid yourselves, this move is about getting us viewers to upgrade to the digital package.

I would agree - making people pay for the channel is what this is about. The website claim they are going to place MTV in its spot (I for one will *never* watch MTV) - but besides that I don't like those music channels - it already is on channel 59 (they are moving it from 59 to 56 for me!). Lets face it - the people that watch the golf channel are those paying the bills - not the kids who will watch MTV - its makes more sense to move golf where we that pay the cable bill may purchase it - rather than MTV that many of us will not.
