I am always confused with this part of the rule book. Sometimes I see tour players hit out of bounds (OB) but not in water. Yet they can still play their ball without incurring a penalty. ie: in deep woods or brush. Why is that?

i believe if the ball is not OB as indicated by white stakes, the ball has to be played. sometimes they just chip out to the fairway or take a drop for an unplayable lie.
anyone (without quoting the rule book) confirm this?
thanks

quoting the rulebook is the best way to prove you are right! :) But ok, I'll try it your way then!
Yes, unless clearly marked OB (normally by white stakes or a fence), the ball is playable w/out penalty from woods/tree brushes and such.....
