Seriously, i'm beginning to think I have a problem.

This week, i've bought a HiBore driver, Fusion 3 wood, and a Rescue Dual TP. Granted, I got a hell of a deal on all 3 clubs, but this goes along with the other driver, wedge and set of irons i've bought this year... and it's only mid-June!

How do I stop this vicious cycle? :help:

NOT buying the clubs would be like LOSING money. I highly suggest buying ANYTHING at a great price just because its immoral NOT to.

$100.00 for a Fusion 3W that goes for $399.99+tax at Golftown
$100.00 for a TM Rescue Dual TP that goes for $379.99 at Golftown

All are legit and come from a good trader. How could I say no? I mean, honestly! :cookoo:

Some people collect cards or clothes or shoes or art, you collect clubs. So what's the problem? Especially if they're a bargain! That wise man, Thimble, said to me at the Copetown event that the two aspects of golf are the playing and the club buying, and that they're not necessarily connected. I have to agree and I endevour to remember those words of wisdom everytime I go through the GT doors!

Hi Section 31

Get this, I paid [USD] from eBay:
The following prices do not include shipping to Michigan, USA.

> Mizuno MP-30 LH, 3 to PW, used 2 rounds so condition 9.7 > $300
We prefer this model of forged iron over any of their 'cut muscle' offering
> Titleist Vokey Chrome, 258.08 RH, new so condition 10 > $57
> Callaway BB Ti 454, 9* LH, new in wrapper so condition 10 > $150
> Callaway BB Ti 454, 13* RH, new in wrapper so condition 10 > $109
> 13 dozen 2006 model Titleist Pro V1x in-the-sleeves, too cheap to even list a price as I might want to sell off 1 or 2 dozen  they have a very small and light company name on them that is almost un-noticeable at first glance. All the same AND no big multi-colour logo that you can see from a mile away. At the price we paid, my son is going to fill up his shag bag tube with 2 dozen new balls.

The clubs I rip apart, so bought them basically for the heads and headcover.
The only thing I bought from a golf store over the last few years were shoes and 1 golf bag.

Hi Section 31

Brand new or used? If used what condition rating?

The Hibore is 9.5/10, no marks.
The Fusion 3W is 9.0/10 no serious marks, some light brushing on the sole.
The Dual TP is 8/10, brush marks on the sole and a mark on the face where a ball was struck with some mud on it.

All in all, some fantastic deals!

I'm probably not as bad as some of you...

For me I think it has to do with the cheap US dollar...

I recently bought a brand new set of MP-60s for $860 CAD (shipping+tax included) that's a saving of $400 CAD!!!

I also looking at a 905R driver (can get it for $300US) to replace my 905T which I had custom fitted last winter.

When I Titleist comes out with their new woods and hybrids (rumour is late July), I'll be all over those!

A bit offtopic but just some reasoning as to Cdn prices vs US prices for goods.

Until manufacturers move quickly to fix the problem with their outdated currency rates, this problem will persist as long as our looney continues it's strong run.

However, it's not as simple as revising their CDN $ rate and recalculating prices.

In the automobile industry, prices on a brand new car can differ as much as 15% when compared to USA and Canada. However, the auto mfr's cannot simply change their rates as it would simply devastate the market value of their currently leased vehicles that are on the road. Buyback values are calculated as a residual of the original price of the car. Imagine if the price of a car today was 20% cheaper than it was 4yrs ago. There would be no one exercising the buyback option of their lease as they'd see that it's probably not much less than buying a brand new car. And nowadays, leasing is a very large % of a auto mfr's business.

In other industries, you cannot recalculate the wholesale price of goods as you punish your retailers who have large stock of goods purchased at previously inflated prices.

Catch-22

Between the end of last season and now - I've bought 7 wedges, 2 drivers, 3 single irons, a hybrid and a shaft for the hybrid plus a staff bag. I reshafted all of the new wedges, regripped all my woods and put together a few clubs for my mom etc. and I haven't really even started golfing yet - only been out 4 times

Luckily friends have me distracted looking for clubs for them, so I don't have time to obsess over anything myself. The only thing I would buy right now would be some X-tour wedges - but I've got a set of tour Cleveland's I haven't even tried yet - that and I'm not crazy about the P grind and hope they release some normal soled wedges with MD grooves soon. :fingersx:

I've only seen pictures of the Titleist 906 fairway woods, so I haven't read any specs on it. My guess is that it would not be any better. Looks like they just moved some weight around. Of course I thought the 980F was going to be my final fairway wood too, and low and behold I got the 904 which I think is better than the 980F.

The 585h hybrid reminds me of the TM Rescue. This is the club I'm waiting for. It looks great, but I'll have to try it out.

Hi kookie

Sorry this is off topic but noticed from your What in your Bag that you use the BGC counter balance weight in your putter. What wt. or BGC #? How did it improve your putting? Just curious on your insight.
I bought their kit about a month ago.

Hi kookie

Sorry this is off topic but noticed from your What in your Bag that you use the BGC counter balance weight in your putter. What wt. or BGC #? How did it improve your putting? Just curious on your insight.
I bought their kit about a month ago.

I got the BCG #7. It was the heaviest one I could get on my putter because of my 33" putter shaft. I got the putter balanced because I felt my takeaway and follow-through was all over the place. After I got it done, my takeaway and follow-through is steady straight-back and through (at least it feels that way). I probably should have gotten a slightly lighter weight (#5) because I can't really feel the putter head anymore. I also had to put a Winn Pistol grip on it to accommodate the weight which also helped too.

A couple of my friends also got it balanced and they noticed the same thing. The feel is great taking it back and through but the feel of the head was gone. They got BCG #9 and #11.

I think the three of us were under the assumption heavier is better.

Overall, I'm glad I did it, now if I can only read greens.

The TP stuff in woods usually means the clubheads are square as opposed to closed.

They also have a different internal weight bias to promote a more "penetrating" (read: lower) trajectory and straighter ball flight as opposed to the high draw tendency in the regular retail versions.

When Frank Thomas was still the Technical Director of the USGA, he presented a paper entitled: "The State of the Game, Equipment and Science" at the 1994 World Scientific Congress of Golf in St. Andrews UK, in which he stated:

""It is very common that extraordinary performances are credited to new equipment by the golfer, his golfing companions and the manufacturer - "The Placebo Effect". The mfgr would like to believe that the new design actually works , and the golfer would like to believe the mfg's claims.

This synergistic form of wishful thinking results in a temporary dislocation of the golfer's mind from interfering with his body. He is on the fringes of the world of "make believe", and the results are extraordinary. The golfer swings better and the mfgr takes heart (considerably more than he should) from this extraordinary performance. This then snowballs, sending the mfgr's marketing division into a "hype frenzy".

The elders of the game understandably express concern and call for something to be done to curb this new innovation. At the same time, they seem anxious to get their hands on the particular piece of equipment in question. This cyclical phenomenon is as predictable as winter following summer, and almost as common.""

"" Manufacturers are supplying a demand, driven mostly by our insatiable urge to get a little more out of our equipment than we are prepared to work for. Our wishes seem to be granted by each new piece of equipment we decide to purchase, as it seems to carry with it a presently unexplained phenomenon, which temporarily separates our minds from interfering with our natural swing movements, exposing our real potential for a brief period of time.

From the golfer's standpoint, our inability to understand or quantify the effect or control that the mind has over our performance makes us vulnerable and gullible to those who sell hope. In this regard we are slow learners, as we seem to come back for more over and over again. We rationalize that this improvement is due to the only thing which is different, i.e., our new piece of equipment. It is from this form of logic that fads and fears are born.

Fads, in that mfgrs derive a false sense of achievement from initial success stories, and the hype follows. The excitement then slowly fades, when reality sets in, and the golfers mind eventually finds its rightful place of interfering with his swing, resulting in a return to prior performance levels. The "magic" is gone, but the quest to find it elsewhere goes on. It seems to be true that the seeking and anticipation is more exciting than the actual finding.""
