This is my first year golfing and I have been shooting around 105 103 for awile. I finally got some golf shoes ( footjoy softjoy's) and new tour edge wedges and I played Indian Wells golf course in Burlington On Monday. Did not play to good the front 9 (52) but on the back 9 I did better and got a 46 and even got a birdie on a par 3. So I shot my first score under 100 which was 98:) . I was really excited because I thought I would take abit more to break 100. Now the next step is cutting out most of my 3 putts( I got 9 three putts:(). It feels great to have broken 100. I am curious of how long it took other golfers to break 100, and To hear some stories about people breaking 100 for there first time so please feel free to share.

in my third year of playing, i had a bad habit of counting my scores before 18 and trying to get the exact score that would give me 99. i should have just gone out and played my normal game instead. when you've got a short putt that you want so badly, the hole feels like it's the size of a dime...
i made it on my 6th attempt. i had 5 100s before that. most difficult 3 foot putt i ever made.

Congrats, Phil!! It's one of the accomplishments we all went through in this crazy game. Now with some practice and more experience, you'll get closer to the 90 mark. As for the 3-putts, only practice with your distance control will get those down. Good luck and keep 'em rollin in the hole!

Phantastico, Phil! You are just a few lag putts away from consistently shooting in the low 90's and breaking into the 80's!

This is my 3rd year golfing and i am a 4 hdcp. I started out 3 years ago shooting high 80's. Apparently I was a natural. People kind of get frustrated when i tell them its my third year and they've played their entire life and cant break 90 or 100.

Hey....that's me....can't break 100 unless it's a 18 hole par 3 type course. Based on the results to date (late last year and this year), my golfing is worse than when I had first started in the early 90'. It was so bad that I was on sabbatical for 8-10 years just until recently. Back then, ignorance was bliss.
IMO, a person is good at some thing, not at others. I am terrible at golf, but well above average at foosball (table soccer).

I broke 100 about August of my first year, and was consistently shooting between 95 & 100 by the end of the year.
Then in December of that year I went to Florida for a week (without my clubs), and played a round in Sarasota after not touching a club for about 2 months. Everything just clicked, and I shot 88 on a course I've never seen before (or since) with a collection of extra clubs my uncle scrounged from about 6 different people (some men's clubs, some women's, no driver but a couple of 3 woods, a few irons missing, etc.). I settled on some no-name, women's 3-wood for every tee shot and was in the fairway with it on almost every hole. That round really changed my perspective on how to play the game.

I broke 100 after about 3 years with the last year of the 3 playing seriously. This is my 4th year, and I shot 92 and 93 last weekend. On my 93 round, I had 39 putts!

Congrats Phil!! Some people are "naturals" at something or other. Breaking 100 in your first year is a great feat.
I have been playing for quite a long time, first time I broke 100 was about my5th or 6th year because I didnt play very much and just swatted it around for a bit of fun as a kid.
One thing I noticed though, once you break 100 the first time, its doesnt seem like that hard a challange anymore(:hush: ).....and the quickest way to get down to low 90's or even 80's is SHORT GAME, SHORT GAME, SHORT GAME!
Have fun on your never ending venture of perfection!:D
