We all know by now when on the green NOT to step or walk on your playing partner(s) putting line, but did you know as part of etiquette that you should NOT walk on each others "through line"? A "through line" is the putting line behind the hole when you have to putt back towards the hole after missing. Anotherwords, just incase your fellow partners misses their putt, you don't want to step on their line coming back. This is usually for more serious golfers or tournament play. I wouldn't stress too much about it unless you're playing with strangers.
No wonder why I always see pro's dance around the hole awkwardly to finish their putts when there's clearly no other ball mark there. Quite frankly though, if somebody told me to not step on their "through line" I would ask them if they have a tour card or if they're a scratch golfer.

hahah ... so many strict rules, correct me if i'm wrong, but you shouldn't even be moving in the vision of the person putting ... your shadow included haha...

Wow I didn't know that you can't step on the 'through line' of an opponents putt. If I'm ever playing with a new person in my golf group, I'll be sure to find out if they are strict about that rule. I know that when I play with my friends we don't care so much about that.

didn't know that......great to know.....this is more to do with etiquette than a rule.......

however stepping on somebody's line is against the rules of golf and if you do step on somebody's line it's a 2 stroke penalty......
