  • Iron Advice

Just had a club fitting done at the Callaway Perferemance Lab in Vancouver and need some advice on my next steps from all you nuts out there.

    Here are my stats:
    6 Iron
    Head Speed 62.60
    Ball Speed 84.60
    Back Spin 4,870
    Launch Angle 21.70
    Side Spin 0
    Side Angle 0
    Swing Path -1.30 (Left) +R/-L
Angle of Attack -6.20 (Down) +U/-D
    Efficiency 1.35 (90%)

The pro suggested a set of Callaway Diablo Edge Irons (Game Impovement Clubs?) with a 2 Lie Flat.
Standard Length with a uniflex shaft.

I'm currently using a set of TaylorMade R7 draw irons, with a steel shaft and a standard lie.

My question is would I see a huge difference in my game with the Diablo Edge irons? Or should save some money and take my clubs into GT and get them to bend the irons to a 2 lie flat?

If you need more information or stats let me know, I really appriciate everyones opinion out there.

    2 degrees flat ?
How does that compare to your static measurements ?

      Re: Iron Advice

Sorry don't really know all the correct terms, yes 2 degrees flat.
Pretty close to the graph below, i'm 5'8 and my wrist to floor meaurement is 31.50 to 31.75 inches. Pretty hard to measure on my own.

When I was doing the board test? with the markings on my club I was really consistant with my results.

        Re: Iron Advice

I'm personally not a fan of Callaway's uniflex shaft, so I'm recommending you repeat the test with the r7.
If the impact results indicate an adjustment towards a flatter lie have them adjusted. Ask if the heel weight on the r7 is adjustable as well because it would allow for subtle modifications since a flatter lie moves the effective CG very slightly towards the toe, and will also feel like a slight swingweight increase.

          Hi Darren,

Are you having issues with your current clubs ?

You can go and see a local club builder and hit your current irons on a lie board and have them adjusted, if they need to be.

I have a problem with this whole 2* flat thing...

2* flat compared to what ?

Check the specs on the iron heads out there and you will find them all different! Lie angles get adjusted because the lie angle does not match the length of the club!

This is one of the reasons I believe in the TLT method. You are working with a system that relates the LA to the club length. Simple math!

            Re: Iron Advice

There is nothing wrong with my current clubs, just want to get the most out of them and improve my head speed a bit to incrase my distance.

I acutally hit my club on a board, with the same results. But your right I will go to Golftown or Sportcheck to do the same test just to be on the safe side.
