Re: Oak Bay Golf at Port Severn...

Rented a cottage nearby last year and played there a few times.

Didn't do too badly with balls or the signature Par 3.

The Par 5 last hole killed me though.

Nice course! Will be better as stuff around it matures. That par 3 on the top of the hill is killer! The 18 is crazy I think i lost 3 balls on that hole.

Other courses around are The Rock, a Faldo course which is really good and Windermere Golf and CC, one of the oldest in Muskoka. I prefer the Rock over Windermere but both have challenges. Drive a bit further and you get The Ridge at Manitou. Worth the drive for sure and one of the top 20 public courses! The clubhouse is gorgeous!

We are NOT that good...some of us worse then others.
Say for a guy shooting around 95 to 100 or so, how many balls should I bring?
We have another in 120 to 130 range...should he be worried?
        Definitely bring lots.

If you tend to spray your tee shots and miss a lot of fairways, that is where you will lose the most balls. You will still have fun though, it is an interesting course and always in great condition.

There are some easy holes, but there are some burtal holes, i would say 50/50
the problem is the holes that are tough you could lose 2-3 balls if you are a high handicapper. it can be a very frustrating course.

My dad and his friends won't play the course to much carry for them.

play the right tee's for your game and you will be ok. Don't be a hero.

Played it today. Love the course. Tight fairways. Better hit it straight or u will be in the woods. Challenging course (for me). Very good layout. Greens, tee boxes and fairways in great shape. Great sceneries. Great service. Worth the 2 hours drive from Mississauga.

Think a road trip is calling in the next month or so, been a few years since I have been there so it's time for another visit, really enjoyed it then and it can only be better now

                Ok, guys.

Here is my first impression of Oak Bay golf course.

We teed off at around 8 am Saturday morning.
For some reason, they switched the front 9 with back 9 so our first hole was actually #10. (I am not sure if this was temporary or permanent change.)
I was warned so much about the difficulty of this course so I was very tentative with my shots. Got a bogey and felt very good. Told myself that this is not too bad....

Then at second hole, I hit a pretty good driver, just right of the middle. 4 bounces and it disappears into right rough....gone!
It just went down hill from there. I probably lost around 15 balls or so. Very tough morning...
I actually did pretty good on par 3's - was able to carry over the distance close to the green. It was more of very narrow fairway that demands almost perfect straight shot. Even a pretty good shot kinda disappeared into the woods if there is any spin.

Will we go again? Oh, yeah....the course was beautiful. Scenery was sometimes spectacular!

Very tough yet enjoyable start to our golfing trip....
