  • Big Bertha vs Diablo Edge

I currently own a set of Calaway Diablo Edge irons.

I have an opportunity to pick up some used 2008 Big Bertha irons.

I assume this would be an upgrade, but would it be significant enough to make the switch?

    Some background on my golf.
    - haven't golfed in 7 years
    - high 90's golfer back then
    - may only get out 4 or 5 times this year

I wouldn't do it. The Diablo Edge iron you are currently using is a few models newer than the BB08. Sure the BB08 has a slightly wider sole, but technology has advanced enough that you don't need a mega-fat iron to hit it straighter or higher. A lot of smaller clubs have an impressive amount of forgiveness to them.

I would stick to what you have or look for something that was released circa 2012-2014 that isn't going to break the bank. Look at the Taylormade Rocketbladez (with velocity slot), Cobra Biocell, Ping G30, Callaway XHot, etc. I'm sure if you did enough digging you could find a great set of 1-2 year old Nike or Wilson irons for next to nothing too.

I would get them if the price was right
