  • RULE 16-2

Here are a couple of interesting questions regarding rule 16-2.

Who in the 1963 Phoenix Open allowed almost 8 minutes to pass, much to the annoyance of the other players and the fans before his ball dropped in the hole? This of course prompted the USGA to introduce Rule 16-2 “aka as the 10 Second Rule”.

Who lost US$88,943 in prize money in the 2000 Honda Classic when he let 13 seconds pass before his ball on the edge of the cup dropped in? He recorded a 3, but a TV viewer had timed it and on review it proved to be correct, he was DQD for not assessing a penalty stroke, and submitting an incorrect score.

Who was DQD from the 1998 NEC World Series of Golf after he waited 20 seconds for a putt to drop while he discussed what to do with V J Singh? Then failed to assess himself a penalty stroke and recording an incorrect score.
