Have you watched him play? There was some show on TGC last year looking at "celebrity" golfers, and he was one of them highlighted as an accomplished golfer. Apparently, he plays to a 3 or 4 hdcp....not too shabby in my books.

Oh, Crunch27. You're "in your mid-fifties and you don't feel you have many trips left? So little time left" Hell, I have underwear older than you. I'm a septuagenarian, make at least four major golf trips a year, maintain an 8.2 index, and my golf (really) has never been better. Age has nothing to do with it - it all comes down to attitude, a relatively healthy life style, working on your game, and of course, rectangular green dollars. Your best golfing days are ahead of you!

Re: Golf: What makes this game so addictive?

For me it's a lot of things

Going out for a few hours onto a beautiful peace of land and enjoying the outdoors, nature, and spending time with good friends and sometimes meeting future friends.

The competition between yourself and the course.

No two games are the same. You can play the same course back to back and you will never see the exact same shot. You are always faced with a different challenge.

There is ALWAYS room for improvement. No matter how well you play, there is always something you can approve upon and be better at.

            For me, golf represents hope.

Hope that my next drive will be the monster drive
Hope that my next tee shot would be the hole in one that I deserve
Hope that after 4 hours, my mental well being is restored
Hope that this would be the low career round at the first tee
Hope that my swing mechanics finally pays off

I loved that Callaway commercial with him and his wife sitting on the couch. There more to this guy than you'd suspect.
Legions of fans know him as a blood spewing, snake loving, shock rocker. But he's also a talented golfer. Alice Cooper shows his genteel side on The Hour. (2...

It's when you know you're gonna shoot low....and you do....once or twice, but most of the time you go home knowing you could've done better if only you played smarter. And so, you promise to be smart next time, only to have your ego get the better of you and come so tantalizingly close to that career round...if only...

Don't worry jnj, I plan on being around for another 35 years or more. That equates to 10 (or 12) more major trips.

Re: Golf: What makes this game so addictive?

For me its challenge of the game, the total relaxation of the times I play alone and the thrill of executing the shot you had anticipated. Meeting plenty of great people as well make the game very pleasurable however its the challenge that makes it addictive to me.
