Re: What do you do when an injury prevents you from starting the season
read books on the mental side of game
if injury permits putts
at least you'll be getting into the game when the courses are starting to get into a good shape
sorry about the injury________________________________

Talk about prolonging the agony!!! Wait all winter long, and then get a real ground hog day kick in the butt. Can always read a book, start a golfing journal with goals and how to get there in it. That's a good way for you to keep track of thoughts on how you feel your game and what you can improve on. Get out the putter and become a world class living room roller! Watch the Golf Channel and hear about how Tiger IS the greatest thing since sliced bread, and maybe solve the economy issues the world is facing.

Re: What do you do when an injury prevents you from starting the season
I am having an operation in late March. Recovery could run 3-10 weeks depending on the results. I have been itching to get out and this will drive me nuts.
I do not have the golf channel so I won't be watching much golf. I will most likely be logged into the forum and read all of the wild and crazy posts that end up on here.
Worst comes to worst I will see if Swainer can get me some good porn to view

Re: What do you do when an injury prevents you from starting the season
Earlier last year (March) I had a spinal fusion in my lower back. My doc in Buffalo knew my job and told me specifically no twisting motions for 6 months, and I couldn't pick up anything heavier than a full fork! I couldn't swing a club until last September. I feel your pain, believe me.
What I did was fill my time watching TGC and ABC/CBS on weekends, reading several books on the mental side of golf and the short game. I did cheat a bit and did some putting practice on the living room carpet (drove the cat nuts!!).
Give it time. Those 6 weeks will be over and the season will be waiting for you.U. S. Air Force, Retired

Re: What do you do when an injury prevents you from starting the season
6 weeks is nothing.....just find another interest to keep you busy....
you can do it !!
Crikey my 9 year old daughter is an avid sportsplayer....competitive gymnast, plays rep hockey and soccer and recently had 8 months ( april - November) of no weightbearing activities at all other than walking.....
she was able to do it. ....6 weeks should be a breeze"Don't cry because it's over, Smile because it happened "

Re: What do you do when an injury prevents you from starting the season
You do not risk anything and do what they say with no rushing back. Every time i injure myself i screw up by pushing it when i know i should rest.
I would spend some time reading like someone else suggested with particular care put on the mental game, rather than technics.
You can also plan out your weak parts of the game and how you will improve. In other words make some notes on which specific shots are really costing you and how to improve.
Could be laying up to a distance you like i.e. 120 yards, rather than pumping the driver every time and ending up in no mans land i.e. 40 yards.
Just one example, but plan it out.PING CAMO BAG...
