  • Problems with removing fast twist soft spikes

Anyone else having problems with removing fast twist spikes from Adidas shoes?

Over the weekend I decided to change up my spikes as the current ones are almost completly worn off. Cleat tool was almost utterly useless and even useing a pliers I had difficulties. Was only able to change 2 spikes on each shoe.

Anyone have any suggestions to how change these with more success?

Take them to GT and they will do it for you.

Or use some WD40 and invest in a good tool where you can apply a lot of torque - I bought a cheap one thinking that I could save some money but it was useless.

Re: Problems with removing fast twist soft spikes

The shoe expert at Golf Town suggested putting the shoes in water to soak the spikes to help loosen the dirt built up on the threads.

It worked except for one spike which will not move even with putting all my weight on it. Its only falling apart on the shoe.
Not sure how I"m going to get that one out.

Maybe the dude needed a tip.

The GT guys will warn you on which spikes will get stuck on which golf shoes.

Here is a sure fire method of removing spikes.

1: Get a shallow pan with hot water in it, about 1/2" deep. ( I use water from the kettle, bring to a boil and then allow it to cool a little....)

2: Put shoes in the water, so that the water is no higher than the thickness of the soles.

3: let them soak for about an hour.

4: Try again with the wrench, if not; try grabbing the outer edges with pliers. They should pop right out.

5: allow the shoes to completely dry, but only after scrubbing the spike holes with a soft brush and soap to remove any embedded grime.

6: Spray the insides of the spike holes with silicon spray... Jig-a-loo works best.

                7: Install new spikes.

Next time, you likely wont have to do anything but twist them out. The Silicon spray really helps in this regard.

Good luck, enjoy your new spikes.

Will WD-40 work the same when installing the new spikes?

I'm sure it probably would, but WD40(petroleum based) has an adverse effect on some plastics, so I just play it safe and use silicon spray. I suppose any old lubricant would do.

no..they changed their freebie policy. it was a nice touch that they did not charge before ...they do now. i am sure some on here frequent them enough they will get for free but for the general masses it costs now.

back to OP and his comment. i myself had a problem with one so bad that in frustration i damaged the piece you stick it into with spike. SO now that one spot wont hold a spike. my fault. and nothing i know of to fix now, i damaged it so bad i had to remove the entire spike and the spot that holds it

they say wd40 works better preventative than to resolve getting out. when putting in new ones give a quick spray for ensuring a easier removal down the road.

What I ended up doing just now was drilling the two holes deeper so I could get better leverage. Needle nose pliers popped them right out.

I'm going to clean and WD-40 them up. Any advice for in-season upkeep to make this easier next time?

                          i have heard two suggestions.
                          1. it sounds like effort..but really..takes minutes a mth. once a mth. take your shoes and simply loosen and remove spikes and reinsert. Its the once a mth doing of this that alone keeps them loose and unable to get built up and stuck. A ton of effort with 14..or 15..or whatever number i have.

2.clean shoes after every round using those brushes at courses. i always rush to leave and end up leaving all that mud and crap on them..but remove that and you have won half the battle.

The tool is good for installation.

Needle nose pliers is the hands down champ at removal. The tool is great for installation.

Forget the hot water and sprays!

Ok well heres what we do with rugby spikes.

Vaseline the hole, throw the spike in and your good.

It prevents rusting on the steel spikes, also helps lube the threds, it also helps repel grit etc.

You could give it a whirl

I havent yet had to change my fast twist golf shoes, and my qlocks work mint.
