However, the allegation that during the campaign, while the Russians were allegedly working to compromise Hilary Clinton, there were exchanges between surrogates for the Trump team and intermediaries for the Russian government could prove fatal.

As one of the articles said, these allegations must be taken with an enormous grain of salt. I would agree for the following reasons:

1) Trump is not a career politician who has always aspired to be President and has held a progressive series of elected positions. Instead, he is an opportunist driven by his own ego. He saw the GOP floundering to identify a candidate to take on Hillary Clinton. So, he threw his hat into the ring knowing that he had nothing to lose (because no one took him seriously) by running an outrageous campaign from the outset.

2) I suspect that Trump never expected to be nominated, much less elected. Given this, if he knew that the Russians had information that could compromise him, what difference would it make? They would never have an opportunity to use it.

3) Trump does not embarrass easily. He will say outrageous things while on camera and then deny he ever said such them or will claim that he was misquoted. He has few boundaries when it comes to the truth or his own self-interest. He had a very public affair during his first marriage with his second wife whom he subsequently divorced. His third marriage is to the quintessential 'trophy wife' who does what she's told and is seen but rarely heard. So, any allegations that could damage him would have to sink to the level of sexual impropriety. Affairs and multiple marriages are nothing new to him, and publicity about them seem to feed his ego.

4) If the Russians really do have some damaging information on Trump, he at least can be comforted knowing that it can only be about his activities prior to being inaugurated. He also knows that his supporters will likely forgive and forget, especially if any allegations of fraud are overseas.

This "report" has been circulating for months. Most media outlets could not verify any of it and it contains some errors. I think we should let it be investigated further before speculating too much. Interestingly, I cannot see it being investigated significantly without a court order to release documents and emails from the Trump team. Good luck with that.

They're probably tossing ideas around about how they'll parody the inauguration, too.

Alec Baldwin may clearly dislike Donald Trump, but he should be thankful for the volume of material that a Trump presidency will provide.
