  • Instead of Bashing TW...

How about your list of classiest PGA players? Although my list might look like a popularity contest...

    Mine:
#1. Arnold Palmer. Unbelievably unselfish. I watched a show on TGC about a week ago, and all throughout Arnies career, he always had time for the fans. The man would sign autographs as long as there were people there. There were other tour players on that show that commented on it and basically none of them said they could give that much time to the fans.
Great family man, utterly unselfish, great champion on and off the field.
For that reason, he's number one in my books.

#2. Jack Nicklaus. You all know the story about Jack personally writing a reply to a young Mike Weir right? Very cool. Plus everything about Jack's devotion to his family, etc... Jack never says the wrong thing.

    Mike Weir
    Tom Watson
Ben Crenshaw. Hard to separate Kite & Crenshaw...
    Tom Kite
    Bobby Jones
    Ernie Els
    Gary Player
    Padraig Harrington

My list from Weir to Harrington is in no particular order. Just all players I respect the hell out of.

The reality is that most of the players today are all pretty much 'on par'. Some of the younger guys are brash, like AK, but even those kids are still respectful of the fans and the game, for the most part.

Of course we don't really know how much time they have for fans, but at least on the course and in interviews they conduct themselves appropriately IMHO.

    Keep it classy San Diego..

Ernie Els seems like a good apple..

But all I care about is if they go for the green in 2 with the tournament on the line.

Rory Sabbatini, had a chance to talk to him at the Hong Kong Open. Pleasant and approachable.

I don't disagree with you but you i hope you realize that Arnie is one of the founding partners of The Golf Channel

people's definition of "classy" might differ and there may be many candidates

            Weir
            Els
            Choi
            Stricker
            Toms
            Lehman
            Mediate
            Glover

I could go on but these few would be my first choices

I actually have to look this up so that I have the proper context...

                According to online Webster Dictionary:

                1. having elegence or taste or refinement in manners or dress
                2. exhibiting element of refinement or high character

Of the current touring pro, the only one that crosses my mind is Anna Rawson.

I would say many European pros display some characteristics of being classy as well.

I like you list Albert Hacker, and agree with all your picks. Also agree that Phil should be on the list too. Annika Sorrenstam, Nancy Lopez are also worthy candidates.

I guess Mr Hacker isn't old enough to understand what Arnies Army really meant.
My game is rubbish with shades of brilliance.

^ Laughed at that... nope, I guess I am too young to have watched golf then. Only been watching about 20 years actually.

While Arnie is great, if you do a little digging around, you will find he had a bit of a reputation as a lady's man, happiest when he had a scotch in one hand and a girl in the other while on the circuit. Remember these were the pre internet and TMZ days....

I think a lot went on "back in the day" but the coverage was not so pervasive

The best thing I have ever heard said about a pro golfer by his peers was said about Nicklaus...."he was equally gracious in victory or defeat".

The modern golfer needs to learn this wonderful trait.
