  • Partner Pays for Cart, but You Don't

In my foursome, I'm the only one that walks (yesterday's round anyway), and the Starter came up and politely told me that I cannot jump in my partner's cart because I didn't pay – and liability issues, bla, bla bla. I told him I did pay thru a GN deal, but I intended to walk anyway. I'd be jumping on only between a couple of holes. Ok, he was satisfied with that and handled it well.

But this tells me that there are several players that "steal" from the course – where only one guy pays and the other "pretends" to walk (the first hole). If that's the case, as it was according to this Starter, then shame on those players.

Seems some people are too occupied to get the lowest price, scam the system or try and cheat their way through this game. It takes real money to maintain course to the conditions we demand. If you can't pay for the cart, then walk. All 18.

If that was your business, you'd probably think differently.

If courses are concerned with this, they should make a single rider cart fee that's twice the fee of the double rider fee.

Why do we pay per rider and not cart? Does the second rider cost the course anything? what exactly are they stealing?

Is pretty common. When you have a single rider price, it sometimes stops it, because the guy who paid more for the cart will likely tell the other guy to go F himself unless they have a deal where the "walker" pays the rider the difference.

Course can make more charging 2 guys obviously rather then just have a per cart fee.

Instead of a single rider cart fee, a per cart fee, say $25 for the cart, no matter how many riders. That puts the onus on the players to find a cart partner to reduce the costs. But, if the fee is $40+ (as it is for two full-paying Clublink riders) they won't get too many taking them up on the one-rider option. So, it is a matter of pricing the cart correctly to discourage the cheating while not choking off demand through too high a price.

I think it's smart to pay by the rider. If you are the only person looking to ride, you shouldn't have to pay for the full cart fee if there are two seats. I also found it common at a public course to have people jump on by the second hole and when asked to pay for their share at the turn they acted as if the golf course was in the wrong.

I believe that a golfer should be allow to have his/her own cart as long as he/she pays the the cart fee. And not forced to share with strangers. Being a passenger in a cart driven by a "crazy" driver is outright dangerous! The driver can feel the terrain and brace himself/herself properly but the passenger may have no idea. When I used to play lot more as singles, I only go to courses where carts are add-ons. That way I never have to get into this situation of carts sharing.

I have seen this situation few years ago on a Friday afternoon at Parkview: (while waiting to tee off for the Valley course with a bunch of grouped together singles)
There is a older gentleman by himself that is riding waiting at 1st tee of the Upper course. Somehow he is grouped with a 3-some of youngsters (looked like 20 something out for a wild drinking time). That 3 some have 2 carts. The starter did not want to have 3 carts out there for this 4-some but I can see/sense that older gentleman did not want to share the cart with any of these "drunks". Eventually they went out with 2 carts after some discussions.

Tough call on this one, I pay I ride, you don't pay you walk, also when asked for ID for the cart I am the only one who drives it, had a few friends crash carts and had to pay for it.

Courses should just include in the green fee....take one if you wish.

Single rider fee. Its silly to charge per cart, IMO. If there are those who jump on somewhere because it was all part of their grea scheme to save $15, so be it, but i doubt this is much of a problem. If it is such a big issue then the club should simply make the odd tour of the course by a Marshall-- now isn't that a concept? Imagine, Marshalls out there actually moving play along, enforcing club rules, maintaining decorum!

And I paid for a cart @ Royal Woodbine the other day and we walked. Felt much better after, just somewhat bothered I paid for something I didn't use.

                        Why should walkers subsidize riders?

if it were up to me, they would be banned, unless you had a doctors note.

I am all for that. I don't understand why able body person have to ride a cart. If you want to drink, do so after at the club house.

Doctor Note, senior citizen, people with obvious handicap are the type that allow to rent or sit on a cart.

Most golf course marshals have a copy of the Tee Sheet which indicates who in any group has paid to ride in a power cart.
Also the Starter will give a heads up to the marshal if they think something dishonest may be going on.
Have seen golfers stopped and directed to the club house and pay their dues when caught doing this.
