Doing some research for a late May/Early June trip to Scottsdale. Any good value courses that may fly under the radar on a typical search? Looking to play desert style courses.

Re: Scottsdale Courses
so many to choose from.
Scottsdale is the most expensive place in the area for EVERYTHING including golf, value and Scottsdale do not go together
being end of May June you will get better rates on golf than prices are now in peak season, they will be roughly half of current fees.
if you are willing to drive a bit try
Poston Butte - best unknown course in the area , 14th best course in Arizona , a Troon facility and should be well under $100. I have not payed more than $60
Gold Canyon- Dinosaur Mountain course, great views and reasonably priced.
Johnson Ranch- haven't played it in a few years but a nice , value oriented sleeper course and should be in the $50 range
Verrado - spectacular course and can get great pricing, as low as $70 in peak season , we played 36 with cart for $60
Wickenburg Ranch- bent grass, great course, very reasonable
Southern Dunes- great routing, tons of bunkers, fab service
These are all excellent courses IMO but tend to fly under the radar a bit and wont break the bank.
there are the usual list of high priced courses like Troon North ( a fav) We Ko Pa ( great courses and worth playing once but severely overpriced IMO) TPC Scottsdale is better post renos but wayyy overrated. Quinterro perhaps my fav course , wont be too bad in end of May-June but will still be approaching $100 US.Last edited by Weirfan; Jan 24, 2017, 03:42 PM."Don't cry because it's over, Smile because it happened "

Take a look at Legend Trail in N Scottsdale, one of my favourites and very recently priced, also Verde River which has some pretty awesome views and you can get some good deals.
We Ko Pa i'd say are the top public courses in the area and fun to play but a bit of a drive out to Fountain Hills. The Boulders also has 2 very courses in North
Scottsdale.

Re: Scottsdale Courses
I am going down to Scottsdale for a conference on February 13. I decided to give myself a Valentines gift by staying one extra day for a round of golf.
What's the one course you would recommend out of those listed in this thread? I'll take care of the rest, including finding out if they accept single bookings and whether they have decent LH rental clubs.
Am itching to play.
Thanks for any advice.

That said, If there is only one course that I had the choice to play it would be Quintero.

Re: Scottsdale Courses
I agree with Weirfan. QUintero is my number 1 course. In my opinion, the 4 other A plus courses are We-Ko-Pa, Boulders, Troon North, and Grayhawk. There are several other fantastic courses that would cost less money-Las Sendas, Dove Valley Ranch, Wildfire, Kierland, Whirlwind, Eagle Mountain, Sundridge Canyon etc. You can't go wrong with any of the above.

Re: Scottsdale Courses
You're planning for a very hot time of year. You're call....! Quintero and Wickenberg two great tracks north west of Scottsdale. Both expensive but worth it. A sleeper is McDowell Mountain, owned by the Mickelson group and located right in Scottsdale. Reasonable......!If St. Andrews is the home of golf, Askernish is it's soul......!

With the Apache helicopters taking off from the Boeing facility across the street - you'll feel like you're in the securest place in the U.S.
And for scenery and golf experience try We-Ko-Pa in Fort McDowell. You won't go wrong.

Re: Scottsdale Courses
The Karsten Course at ASU in Tempe is a real bargain at that time of year. More of a parkland course (one of the last AZ courses built before acreage restrictions went in years ago), but well worth it. A couple of hackers named Mickelson and Rahm played their college golf there. When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.
