  • Tiger passes on Arnie...!

Tiger, we all understand that your physical degradation will not allow you to play at Bay Hill but to not even show up to honor the King is the ultimate insult to a man who forgave you all of your sins with one big hug. Shame on you...!

Well, the king is dead, so I don't think he'll be offended. And I can think of a few more horrifying things that Tiger might undertake if he were to decide to deliver the "ultimate insult".

And I'll quote myself from earlier this year:

    http://www.golfdigest.com/story/arnold-palmer-golfs-unquestioned-king-dies-at-age-87
On the subject of perfection, Palmer wasn't a plastic saint. He didn't glow in the dark. For 45 years he adored Winnie, but he loved all women, and more than a few loved him back. PGA Champion Bob Rosburg, his roommate on tour for some of the hungry years, fielded a phone call once from an especially agitated husband. Rossie tried to mollify the man, but, never wanting to come between Arnie and buckshot, signed off by saying, "My bed is the one by the window." So maybe the king understood some of Tiger's transgressions.

You are forgetting to sh1t on DJ, Spieth, Reed, Mickelson, Thomas, Scott, Garcia....and as OKHC has posted, Palmer wasn't any better than Woods when it came to womanizing.

Not commenting on the subject here, but it's so refreshing and encouraging to see you two guys, shoving the "political correctness/politeness" aside, and expressing your critical views, right or wrong, it really doesn't matter.
There is some hope that "free speech and freedom of expression" is coming back and will be allowed again (do we thank Mr. Trump here, lol)

Meh, nobody expected Tiger to play or show. Who knows what is going on but his latest press release stating that there is no timeline for his return suggests that things are not good in Tigerland and more serious than the downplayed " just back spasms" they claimed after his last WD.

Also not sure what showing up has to do with honouring the King, Arnie is gone, he was honoured at his death, life goes on.

Arnie will always be revered and remembered as one of the greatest gentlemen of the game, Tiger will never be remembered anywhere close to the same , him showing up won't change anything in that regard.

Tiger's statement indicates that he wanted to honour Arnie:

"Unfortunately, due to ongoing rest and rehabilitation on my back, I won’t be able to play in this year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. I’m especially disappointed because I wanted to be at Bay Hill to help honor Arnold. This is one event I didn’t want to skip,”

But, despite wanting to honour him, he can't make the 2 1/2 hour drive (or get driven lying down in an RV)? And this, after missing the memorial service?

Either he doesn't really care as much as his statement says, or... he's never going to play again. It's been 5 weeks+ since Dubai. Those ain't no ordinary back spasms....

Tiger not showing up is not unexpected, I don't believe it has anything to do with honouring Arnie. Many players are skipping the event this year, are they dishonouring Arnie?

No, but the prevailing wisdom seems to be that Tiger owes more to the game than others so he's the one that gets called on it. FWIW I disagree.

                    Exactly.
I am sure Tiger would like to avoid the media circus also, and answering the same redundant questions over and over again. Maybe Perez has something to say..

Hardly, The King had his day, and he won't be there, besides Tiger never had any respect for anybody.
Tiger's done anyway; nobody is sure when or even if he'll show up anywhere.

He can't physically play, so why should he just show up anyway? I get that Arnie died this year, but if Tiger is supposed to show up despite being unable to play, that opens the door for criticizing just about any golfer who doesn't show up.

Will Jack Nicklaus be there? He owes a hell of a lot to Arnie. Do we crap on Jack if he's not there? What about Gary Player?

                          Re: Tiger passes on Arnie...!

It's probably better that Tiger doesn't go at this point, if he isn't playing in the tournament and shows up to honour Arnie it'll turn into a media circus about his back again. Looking at the big picture, maybe he's honouring him more by not going because NBC/GC will ask Tiger one question about his relationship with Palmer and then ask 10 unrelated questions about Tiger's future tournament schedule/how his back is holding up.

I think this argument could be made both ways. Tiger did a lot for the game of golf. Majority of golfers under 40 probably picked up a club because of Tiger.

I support what this poster had to say here and I think most others are missing the point. That point being that Arnie was the first person of any stature to step forward and offer forgiveness. It's sad to see several members of this board dump on Arnie as well. What's that great quote, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone".
