  • Halifax area must plays?

Gonna be in the 'fax end of May with the better half. She has to work, whereas I do not.

Looking for a few courses. Willing to drive about 30-45 mins if worth it.

Also any restaurant / microbrewery recommendations in Hali as well if you got some.

    Thanks Nutts.

Dave I can't tell you about the golf, but Argyle Street in downtown Halifax is a must followed by Lower Water Street.

Links at Brunello and Glen Arbour are both worth it.

I would also recommend Hartlen Point Forces Golf Club. Not expensive and a surprising Oceanside location. It's not the most upscale experience but I love it.

Glen Arbour was definitely on my radar.

              Brunello looks nice too!

Can't speak to the golf, but for microbreweries there's a really good one called garrison down near pier 21. Have fun. Halifax is a great town

                        Re: Halifax area must plays?

A couple of restaurants that I wouldn't miss are The Bicycle Thief as well as Brooklyn Warehouse. The latter had, and may still have, a great corkage fee - $1.00! This is especially beneficial if you've visited (as you should) Bishop's Cellar, near the waterfront, for one of their many wines. This is a privately operated, licensed store that has a great selection of wines, many of which you wouldn't find in Ontario. I almost forgot. For breakfast or lunch, you and your wife really should visit The Coastal Cafe. Get there early. It's a small place with huge flavour.

As for the golf, it's too bad that your travelling radius is confined to the immediate area of Halifax. Otherwise, I'd head off to Cape Breton for exceptional golf. Given the limitations that you've set, in addition to the courses already mentioned, I'd not forget about Chester. It's no more than a 35 minute drive. You might also consider the two courses in the Pugwash area, Northumberland and Fox Harb'r. The latter is expensive, but pristine and fun to play. Their driving range is so beautifully manicured that a friend of mine couldn't bring himself to hit balls off the range. He thought the turf was better than his course's greens. There are so many other courses to choose from. If you gave me an idea of what interests you, I might be able to help a bit more.

Let me add another possibility. The Apple Blossom Tournament is being played at Ken-Wo on May 26th and 27th. If you have the time, a valid handicap card and your wife doesn't mind, I'd sign up now to play. It's always a great and inexpensive tournament in the Kentville area.

This isn't a dress rehearsal. Enjoy yourself. There's no do-over.

Split Crow was my regular... In my years there I never played golf - only place I'd lived that I haven't. Not much of a golf destination.

Actually, it is a very good golf destination. The courses are varied, reasonably priced and fun to play.

Judging from your previous response, you seem to be defining good based on an area that stretches all the way up to the likes of Cape Breton and Pugwash...a 4 and 2 hour drive respectively.

Based on the OP, though there are a couple of decent courses in the Halifax area, I would not recommend Halifax as a golf destination if you are looking to stay within a 45 minute radius.

Extending on my previous response, I forgot about Chester but it's borderline 45 mins. Hartlen is closer and about as good.
