...But have mostly 'taketh-ed' from me over the last 3 Tuesdays at a local Kitchener 9 hole course called River's Edge.
I'm a 14 handicap, and my first 3 rounds I've played closer to almost a 30 handicap on this very tough and tight 9...
I typically don't play 'just 9', but a neighbor asked me to join the league this year of about 30 guys, and I agreed as another excuse to contribute to what I hope to be my most prolific year on the links, it gets me out of the office by 4PM, and it's a short drive to the course.
It's a special league, where it's played with a very stringent adherence to rules and scoring, this coupled with the pressure to perform has had me with let's say, a horrific first 3 rounds...
It was starting to get into my head, and I was regretting my decision to play the league, just after work, the stress of the day, excuse after excuse, etc. - One of the guys reminded me of my performance on the Par 5 7th hole last week that "Wasn't even close to the record of 24 shots" (I shot 13, YES, a 13 on that hole alone for Christ sake)...
Well tonight, I wasn't going to be intimidated and I was bound and determined to play well - Sure enough, I shot a 40 on this Par 35 terror, with 5 pars out of 9 holes played.
I can't stress the amount of relief and satisfaction I have after 'proving' my handicap wasn't a 'mistake', and finally playing a decent round at 'The Edge'...
By the way, I bogeyed the Par 5 7th - 7 shots better than last week!! God I love this game!!! (For now).
