  • Wash your grips??

I thought I should open another thread...everyone is talking new grips/
2 for 1 etc...golfers should wash their grips more often if they expect more
    rounds out of them..dirt,perspiration,suntan lotion,bug spray,insect repellant,
deordorant etc all can help destroy the rubber compound in grips..

I was OK with everything until you mentioned deodorant. How does that find it's way to your grips?

I don't think I've ever washed my grips. Might help, but still haven't done it.

I agree washing your grips does really help maintain them. I wash mine every week during the summer just to get all the crap off of them, I just use soap and water it does the trick!

Bah. Grips are cheap and I'm lazy. Grip with air, change with air. Dirty grip = time for a new grip. Buy in bulk and save!

Yes, I wash them afew times a year with warm water and soap and a light scrub with a nylon brush and they feel/look like new when dry. At the same time, I clean the grooves as well. Get the better half to wash the towels, you organize and clean out the bag of stuff you don't use and gents, it feels like you just bought a new set of everything.

                  Re: Wash your grips??

I am too lazy to wash weekly in summer, but i do it roughly every 3 weeks and as a result my new decades last me more than a season with 50+ rounds. I sweat like a pi...sorry...pigs don't have sweat glands...where did that saying come from?...back to comment...i sweat buckets and i do find oily grips give less grip and less life.
ps re the deodorant comment, he is right, anything that sweats and comes down your arm in summer will find its way onto your grips....

Every round or range session, takes 5 minutes and keeps them nice and tacky.

I also change my grips 2-3 times a season, so..... umm yeah.

2-3 times a season? Holy sheet man....

Guy, I'm sure I play triple what you do and might change them twice. I just wash my grips after every couple rounds, and if it's been a really hot day during the round I wash them right after.

Well I changed the grips on the X forged once, and changed my wedges and driver 3 times. The 704's just got cleaned a lot. I figure I got in 70 rounds, did you triple me?

Gee I would change the grips on my kids clubs after each season (over 100 rounds). When he switched to cord I let them go 2 seasons once. We did wash them good every couple of weeks. When washing grips I put a wooden tee in the butt end of the club just so there is no chance of water entering the steel shaft and causing rust. I've seen grips from CANTour members who did not wash their grips. I could never figure this out, their grips were basically shot, and they are trying to play golf for a living.
