OP, yes, shafts make a big difference, although I will concede your swing needs to reach a certain level/speed before you need to concern yourself with it.

Re: Is there really big differnce in shafts?
I wasn't really a believer in the past but with my previous set of irons, the ball flight seemed lowered so when I traded up I got a set with 'high launch' shafts, the ball seems to go higher now. Also when I got fitted by mizuno and that shaft optimizer, the data confirmed that I hit the ball lower and would benefit from a high launch shaft.
Has my game improved??? Not really but then maybe some of us are hopeless lol

Re: Is there really big differnce in shafts?
I have a stiff shaft on my 3 and 5 wood and a regular shaft on my driver and 4 hybrid on my driver.
Why? No idea!
But I will buy a new set next year! It has been approved by my accounting department! What other people may find in poetry or art museums, I find in the flight of a good drive.

some say that it's not a matter of the length of the shaft - even a pro can use a smaller one and whack it and still get great results
You don't want them to stiff or they might break if abused
