I am playing Secession and Oldfield in a couple of weeks. Secession is a walk only club with mandatory caddie. Anyone else played these before? Comments.

Haven't played Oldfield, I have heard from a reliable source that it is average at best and not worth a special trip.
I would play Chechesee Creek instead if I were you.

Re: Hilton Head Private Clubs
Reviving a really old thread, but planing on going down to HH for the first time in a month and a half and interested I'm some input.
The clubs I am really interested in are;
Long Cove
Haig Point
Colleton River
Belfair
Secession
If anyone has played them and has any thoughts I would be interested in hearing them. Please also let me know if there are any must play courses I have missed in the HH area, either public or private.

Re: Hilton Head Private Clubs
High Cut: All of the clubs you mentioned are Private. How do you plan on getting to play them? There are a lot of really good courses available to play however, including the 2 courses at Palmetto Hall, the 3 courses at Palmetto Dunes, The Country Club of Hilton Head, Hampton Hall to name but a few. I'd also suggest you consider getting a Club Key discount book at Golf Headquarters Retail Shop when you get there. Well worth it.

I am trying to determine which of them I should focus on.

The drive up to the clubhouse and the clubhouse itself are classic south carolina feel. Berkley hall is another one to check out. Best practice facility I have ever seen.

Re: Hilton Head Private Clubs
Your list is good. A few others to add:
As mentioned, Chechesee is really good.
Try May River, also a good track and nice place.
Long Cove and Harbor town are neck and neck for best in my view.
Secession also really good.
Old Tabby is a very nice atmosphere and good course.
If you can make the 2 hr trip up to Charleston, Yeamans Hall, and Ocean Course are must plays.
