Do you have the Nippon 8950 iron shafts in stock? I am considering them for my i25 irons. Are you able to hard step a regular flex?

Almost all places that do custom work, would order a model like this on a need-only basis. You can soft or hard step any shaft, but this is mostly done to reduce/increase spin and it will almost always change the bend profile.

Anytime someone talks soft/hard stepping, I'd refer them to a qualified fitter as they understand what kid of an impact it will have on your game, and if it would be of any benefit to you once they've performed an analysis. So if you haven't already, get in touch with one of the resident club builders on here and get them to help you out.

Thanks for the tip! On paper my swing speed falls somewhere between a regular and stiff recommendation so the thought process was that hard stepping a regular flex would get me to that sweet spot. I did do a Ping fitting a few years back and if I recall correctly they had recommended this on the Nippon 950 shaft. I'd love to take advantage of the 20% off promotion however.

Scott is correct in that we would order them and they can be easily hard stepped.

Learn something new everyday...I don't deal with GT for anything custom, guess that's why I've never heard of the "8950".

My research leads me to believe it is almost identical to the 950GH shaft

A question sir - in stock at store or online? Can only seem to find .370 Dia shafts online. If I were to purchase these would my local GT give me a deal on install?

Both, if they are in stock as it says.

As for all those asking about grip sizes build up tape etc. Use this chart

GolfWorks Canada is a fully stocked retail store specializing in golf club components, custom fittings and golf club repairs. We offer the largest selection of golf grips, shafts, heads and accessories in the industry.

As for reducing Taper it's dependant on the grip. Usually 3-4 wraps on the lower hand. But that is irellevant if it's a .580 grip or a .600 on a .600 shaft

The grip size only matters on the overall size reducing number of total wraps needed but to reduce Taper it will be same.
