  • PING Fitting Standards? Red Dot? Black Dot?

Could someone please explain to me Ping's fitting standard? As I understand it the 'dot' system is exclusive to PING. I just bought a set of PING Rapture's off a fellow golf nut here and they are red dot.

I'm 5'10 and 185 lbs if that makes a difference now? Should I be getting them custom fit?
    What's in my bag?

red are 1* flat ,black is their standart lie.
They have recently revised this to include finer increments.
Myself I have black from 5iron up, and red from 6iron down. It's much more important that the mid-short irons are the correct lie.
Ping will adjust them for free. Call them and set up an appointment.

Ping has added a few more lie options recently, so I believe red dot is now 3/4* flat and so on.

The coloured dot is PING's system for identifying the lie angle, but other manufacturers have similar systems.

For example, Callaway's system is below. Instead of a dot however, they paint the 'R' on the hosel one of these colours. The 'R' by the way represents Roger Cleveland designed clubs, such as what you'll find on the Callaway X-Forged irons and wedges.

              Callaway Colour Codes:
              Standard - Black
              UP 1 degree - Green
              FLAT 1 degree - Gold
              UP 2 degrees - White
              FLAT 2 degrees - Red
              UP 3 degrees - Blue
              FLAT 3 degrees - Yellow

              Regards.

3/4" over nominal shaft lengths equates to 1 degree, this seems like a logical approach.

Not 3/4" but rather 3/4*. Ping has added some more options to their lie chart, thus changing the lies of what some of the old colours represented.
