Re: Most over-rated golf course in the Toronto area that you played in 2016.

Personally I believe the issue with some of the more expensive, or according to this thread, overrated golf courses is the terrible conditions we are paying a premium for!? I used to feel less guilty paying $150 to play Angus Glen or Eagles Nest or Wooden Sticks or any other $100+ course around the GTA. Now I see bunkers not groomed, divots not seeded, fairways uncut, greens bumpy and diseased and full of ball marks? I see less and less professional service and courtesy, beverage carts with nothing in them while only seeing them once or twice a round. I dont mind paying the money to play a nice golf course but if im going to spend $100-$200 on green fees somewhere, i want to see the value in the course not just the old reputation. The only public course (although expensive) in the gta i have played over and over again with pretty darn good conditions is Osprey Valley. And the play all day deal is the best darn deal anywhere i have seen.

      ...but that's still $180 out-of-pocket! I'd rather pay $100 and play Woodington's 2 courses!
Every great idea starts out as a blasphemy

Personally a magnificent layout, on a remarkable piece of land with good conditioning can be worth the high green fees charged.

Just do not see that many of these in area immediately adjacent to or in the GTA.

Perhaps some of the top end private 'players courses'.

But public courses? Some will argue Eagles Nest. Other than that?

Osprey Valley seems to have hit the sweet spot for many.

Yes financially Woodington Lake would make sense and they are decent courses. We may have played on different occasions, however in my opinion Osprey Valley (3 very decent layouts with a great practice facility) is a much superior place to spend money. Firstly, the pace of play is outstanding because they have 3 courses, secondly the fairways and greens are kept much more like a private course rolling fast and true, and lastly the courses at Osprey are much nicer visually with a variety of different holes and tees. The place is just pure golf with no hassles from anybody. Woodington Lake to me is no match as far as conditions and pace of play. For $180 you get to play 3 great and fun tracks (if you have the time..) I have yet to play any public course with better than average conditions and pace of play. Maybe Copper Creek, however you will spend $160+ for one round of golf. Have you found any other gems around the GTA?

I don't think that you need to apologize for that.
And a love of Osprey is almost a requirement to be a TGNer

There are two requirements, two! A love of Osprey and a fanatical dedication to wandering off topic.

The lack of OT enforcement on this site is actually one of its charms, IMO. It allows threads to evolve, and who's against evolution?

Yes you are right shooter. While im here... Watsons Glen and Lakeridge Links are overpriced/overrated in the Durham Area. Pay the extra little bit to play Oakridge or Royal Ashburn I would say. Or there is a 9 hole course called Kings Bay in the little town of Seagrave across the lake from Casino, its a great track and well worth the money or drive. Best nine hole course i have ever played. Angus Glen North is by far the most overrated and boring course in Markham area.

While it's been a while since I've been there, I agree with you on Kings Bay, worth the drive.

                              Lots of people.....oops off topic.

Fortunately there are no rules limiting the number of golf balls you can carry during a match!

Agreed that Watson's is over-rated & has become over-priced (with few "deals")---same can be said for Royal Ashburn, but I quite like the layout of Lakeridge (and even Whispering Ridge)
