Re: TXG - My Experience Today

    Awesome results guy!

330+ yard drives, very impressive. I would only be able to sniff that downhill down wind and pan hard fairways of course

Also very impressed with smc66 iron fitting. Almost two club lengths, more than enough to yell "shutup and take my money".

From a few of the TXG fitting threads it seems Nippon shafts are coming out on top, and performing real well for a lot of people. Now must try myself!:>

Ya. Don't talk about anything. Posts like the one you responded to are why industry experts like Ian, Tobybear, and Gawain don't bother to come on here much anymore.

Which is truly unfortunate for the TGN community.

Nobody is being defensive. Just wondering why it matters. It clearly doesn't. If you think any of us have skin in the game...I can only speak for myself in saying I don't. If I did, I'd say so (as I did in my original Modern Golf review where I stated I won a contest). This forum is about helping others, and my post was to provide people with a positive review on a new fitting studio that I think is as good as it gets on every level (service/expertise/overall experience).

I like helping good people, and the folks at TXG are just that.

Good to know. Enough said. Sorry to distract from the intent of your post.

Did a fitting with TXG last week and ended up ordering Mizuno 900 Forged with Nippon MODUS 105's (I'm an older guy with slower swing speed).

I much preferred the Nippons to the PX and TT's I tried.
Would like to have tried some KBS but didn't.

I did a fitting with Golf Town and TXG. Very different experiences - both have good points.

                  Thanks for the kind endorsement

Haven'y been on here in a while but saw my name mentioned.

Its people who choose to ignore facts that prevent me from posting anymore.

Lots of great fitters and technology available to help golfers get better.

Following up on my iron fitting experience from a few weeks ago, I had a driver fitting at TXG today.

Again, very happy with the experience and results. I tried a variety a head and shaft combinations, and the winner was the Epic Sub Zero. Some details below.

Current driver (Fit 2 years ago at Eagles Nest): Titleist 915, Diamana S+ Blue 60
                      Avg Club Speed: 98.5 mph
                      Avg Ball Speed: 138.9 mph
                      Avg Smash: 1.41
                      Avg Carry: 228.6 Yds
                      Avg Total: 247.5 Yds

Best head/shaft combo: Callaway Epic Sub Zero, Kuro Kage Silver TiNi 60 (no upcharge)
                      Avg Club Speed: 99.9 mph
                      Avg Ball Speed: 139.1 mph
                      Avg Smash: 1.39
Avg Carry: 243.3 Yds (+14.7 yards improvement)

Even with a slightly worse smash factor your carry and total distance increased dramatically. I'm guessing your spin numbers went down a fair amount?

Yes, spin dropped by 300 rpms or so, on average. Launch angle was also better. The smash difference was largely due to poor strikes - the GC Quad shows exactly where on the face each ball was struck.

                            So.... a
                            1.5% increase in clubhead speed
                            0.2% increase in ball speed
                            0.2% decrease in smash
                            =====================
                            6% increase in total distance

                            What was the difference?
                            Trajectory? Spin?
                            What loft were the clubs?

                            Whatever, it's a nice result!

All good questions. Both clubs are 9-degrees.

The image below shows 1 sample point from the 915 and Epic.
                              Ball Speed: 142.0, 142.7 (+0.7)
                              Total Spin: 2034, 1720 (-314)
                              Loft: 18.6, 17.1 (-1.5)
                              Launch: 14.2, 15.9 (+1.7)
                              Descent Angle: 38.8, 34.9 (-3.9)

To my untrained eye, it seems the Epic launches higher, with less spin.

So the 915 was 12 yards shorter in carry but 24 yards straighter? IMO, the increase in distance is is not worth the big loss in accuracy. You will hit one club more with the Titleist. That said, I have found the 915 to be consistently shorter than the Epic and M1/M2 in cusotmer fittings.
