Spotted this on another forum. Thought it was interesting. Address pics would have been nice. Doesn't jump out at you as a "pro" iron from that cavity design and aesthetic choice.

      Re: Callaway Epic irons

Hmmm, tough to see what number is stamped on the bottom (could be a 6 or maybe even 18?). Looks like it could be more driving iron like than anything, seeing as the Apex driving iron has been out for 3ish seasons, maybe they felt like they needed an upgrade. Combine that with the Epic 2H headcover tag in the background, it makes more sense than to release an iron taking over the CF16 and Big Bertha OS so late in the year.

Could be Japanese only release or a tease for next years Cf16 line. Looks very Fusion/FT to me with the smaller head and polymer filled backing.

Zoomed in and I see another one in the bag, I think they are irons.

          Re: Callaway Epic irons

I stand corrected, I went to the original thread, they are in fact irons. Looks very similar to an FT still, even more so in the enhanced photo on GWRX. Very curious why they would come out with an iron replacement in mid season, especially one that they already have 2 of? Assuming Epic Pro would be taking place of CF16 and Steelhead Xr Pro...but why now? Maybe it's a late Fall/early Winter release and they want to reap the social media campaign of Epic again. It worked (is working) very well for the driver, so maybe they figured they could keep the train running.

Apart from some massively strong lofts, a velocity slot, and a cup face, I fail to see how you can magically juice ball speed via energy transfer any more than has currently been done. Surely a combination of a velocity slot and cup face would negate the cup face as it is no longer firmly in place with the outer shell of the iron? Not an engineer, just curious. Do you think they are going to go with the 19* 4i ala M2s with a cup face? It would definitely increase ball speed...

            Re: Callaway Epic irons

these look like big bertha irons with the epic name attached and a little different lipstick on them.

I swear, much like taylormade P770's are/look exactly like taylormade SLDR's with tungsten inserts.

              Re: Callaway Epic irons

Just saw these things in the flesh today. Nice looking club. Topline a hair thinner than Apex CF16, leading edge appears more square, less camber. Lofts are juiiiiiccceed on the standard models. Price tag is going to be retarded though. Like PXG, Titleist C16etc....

Performance would need to be outrageous to make the price tag worth it. Nice feature that you can order heads +/- 5 grams to play with different shafts and weights etc without tape, plugs, powder etc...

Getting a remote sense that golf industry is changing, looks like moving forward to less sales and high margins through offering "special editions" for 250+ per club and financing plans to buy clubs maybe 18 month zero interest

                        crazy expensive

In graphite they $280 usd a club, that works out to $3420 canadian including gst for a 8 piece set

                          Re: Callaway Epic irons

Save your money and buy a set of RBZ irons that look similar with juiced up lofts as well. I think you can probably buy a used full set of RBZ irons for less than 200 bucks! That's less than the price of one club for the new Epic irons
