  • Friend wants to try your clubs

Long story short, playing Millrun last week and about to tee it up on Grist #3. Par 3 playing 220. One of regulars in our foursome asks what I'm using, I say hybrid, I then ask him what about you and he goes and grabs my 5 wood out of my bag and says this. I told him I'd rather you not and stick to what's in your bag, my clubs are not your option.
The rest of the round was sour from him and things seem different between us as I ran into him over the weekend.
Was I in the wrong or is he just being a d**k.

I think it depends how likely you feel he would hit the club properly
If it were possible that he may put a skymark on the club, or other damage I feel your concern is warranted

That's it. His woods are covered in skymarks.

your kind of screwed. Either way you piss yourself off by letting him use i or piss him off by not. He wont understand because he thinks you dont trust him and you think there is a chance he could leave a raspberry so you'd rather avoid the situation. My opinion... unless someone offers... dont ask.

There are probably more delicate and diplomatic ways to ask if one wants to try someone else's clubs than grabbing it out of another's bag.

It may not have changed your answer, but perhaps it may have avoided an awkward situation and the hard feelings.

Your friend may be feeling as much embarrassment for his actions as being miffed for having being refused.

Fortunately there are no rules limiting the number of golf balls you can carry during a match!

He needs to let it go.
It is very presumptuous of someone to grab and attempt to use another person's clubs especially woods/ fairway metals.

anybody can try my clubs whemever they want, if somehow they manage to BREAK the shaft or dent the head - they would be expected to replace it. sky marks are nothing more than a paint chip, which often happens to my headed clubs as i don't care to use headcovers.

Buds share and try each other's clubs all the time, unless in a competition of course

I don't have an issue with ppl trying out my stuff on a range, a few shots, if they are decent players and the clubs in their wheelhouse. I wouldnt let a 30 handicap pick up my driver knowing damn well its too long, too stiff and too low lofted.

I don't really care. Play away.

If something happens to it, I just go buy new one.

I'm okay with letting anybody try my irons, wedges and putter. But woods and hybrids are reserved for only those that I believe will not leave a permanent reminder on my club of that one time they wanted to "try out" my club.

Irons or putter - no problem. Others, only for people I know and trust. Tough situation but if a casual acquaintence asked me I'd say - you damage it, you've bought it. For a complete stranger I'd probably say no thanks.

Funny thing, I've hit a few clubs of playing partners of late and they were the best hits I had all day.

Re: Friend wants to try your clubs

I'll let friends try my clubs anytime. Silly IMO to make an issue of it. Not worth it in the end.

I don't think I would have cared as much if it was a iron or wedge but my woods and putters are different.

your welcome to try my irons and putter.
Driver, woods and wedges are off-limits. Too much work in them.
