I suggest you familiarize yourself with how players can qualify:

Obviously, he'll have no illusions about contending.

People wonder why he still goes out, even if it means Monday qualifiers and nothing more; I think the answer is simple: because he wants to. It always baffles me why people say someone should retire if that person doesn't want to retire. And even the "he's taking a space away from a younger player" argument (which was always an argument of convenience anyway) is no longer applicable. If he gets spots it will be because he's earned them through qualifying, and if he can't qualify, who are we to tell him he should stop trying?

I admire someone who keeps at something they love even when no one is handing them opportunities.

Couldnt agree more. Great post.

Do you understand how you get invited to play in The Masters?

Good one. It's certainly something I've seen raised in the past, particularly with the over 55 past champions.

Mike Weir is leading (tied with B Steele)the Par 3 contest and play has been suspended. Will he and Brendan share the victory if play doesnt resume?

Wasn't Brendan Steele the guy who sunk a couple of late putts to take away a possible win from Mike a couple of years ago? About the only time Mike had it going in the last, well, heckuva long time.

Maybe he should ditch the driver and stick to the irons?
Looks like the par 3 trend is going to continue.
