Re: Pat Perez in Players Tribune...good read
Thanks. I enjoyed it. I appreciate that he remembers his roots. Back in the day, a 3 bedroom, 2,000 ft2 home was not slumming it but we are talking about that part of the world. He's worked for everything he's gotten.WITB: clubs, balls, tees, Advil and a candlestick (just in case)

Re: Pat Perez in Players Tribune...good read
I did not know much about Pat Perez... but after reading this article I have a ton more respect for him. He won tournaments using borrowed clubs, and wearing an old pair of Air Jordans he fished from the garbage as a young golfer, in a sport which one might think that you need a lot of money in order to be successful.
However looking at some of golf successful PGA pros, past and present I'm glad that one doesn't have to be a rich country club kid in a crazy expensive junior program to be successful.

Re: Pat Perez in Players Tribune...good read
I am still a little confused with the info in the article and the responses here. I appreciate him (Perez) working hard as a kid (so did we all for the most part) and using his talent in golf to make it to the tour. What are we debating here? That Perez shouldnt have been kicked off the college team, or somebody should have sponsored him sooner? Maybe somebody (or family) could have bought him a set of clubs to compete with? Does nobody search for life and survival needs in a trash bin anymore? His life and upbringing seems pretty normal to me, and he has shown many of temper tantrums professionally for him to be fairly labelled as a "hot head" with an attitude. Re: Pat Perez in Players Tribune...good read
A great read, I love that site !
I loved the anecdote about Pat caddying for Daly's playing partner in a pro-am, when John asked Pat to take a swing:
"He handed me his driver. He handed me his f****** driver. The Cobra Ultramid with the red titanium shaft and the kevlar face. This thing was basically folklore, and now it was in my hands."
With his praise of Canada, I will certainly cheer him on if I ever see him at an event.🍍 2023 WITB 🍍

Re: Pat Perez in Players Tribune...good read
2002 Bell Canadian Open at Angus Glen. Perez is out early on the Final day and fires a course record 63 on the South Course under PGA Tour conditions.
An amazing round.
Wouldn't be interviewed by the media as he says that he is off to an Anger Management Course. Glad he seems to be coming to grips with things as he was a real piece of work back then.

Re: Pat Perez in Players Tribune...good read
that was a good read and gave me more insight into Pat that I didn't have before. Always just thought he was a hot head and a bit of a knob. Was interesting to hear about his upbringing and how he had to work for everything. Also nice to hear about his praise for Canada.
Saw him in person tee off at Torrey this year with his dad doing the first tee announcement.... was pretty neat seeing he's a local boy with a lot of history there.
Staying on tour for that long is an accomplishment for sure. He hasn't burned up the circuit but lately has some very strong tournaments later in his career which is nice to see.

Doing well, but said something like "nice to be in the lead, but it's only the Canadian Open, so who cares"..."Confusion" will be my epitaph
