Is anyone else conflicted by putter lofts and 'delofting' the putter face at address with a forward press?
Numerous putter manufacturers cite that a ball at rest on a green, sits in a slight depression created by the weight of the ball. The go on to say that the loft is designed to move the ball out of the depression it creates when the putterhead strikes the ball.
Yet, you'll note that numerous players engage a forward press to deloft the putter face in an effort to impart a true roll upon contact whereby they prevent the ball from bouncing/hopping after contact before the ball begins rolling.
It all seems so counter intuitive to me - putter manufacturers creating loft, only to be offset by the forward press!! Why not simply create putters with no loft or limited loft?
Thoughts?
