  • Best Member Guest event - Where?

Looking for some feedback on what you have experienced as the Best Member Guest event you have played in and why - format, prizes, course, camaraderie etc.
Need to find some new golf buddies

Re: Best Member Guest event - Where?

It was back in about 2002/03....at Olympia Fields in Chicago. Just before they hosted the U.S, Open...

Groups were split into divisions of similar handicaps. Each group played 5 nine hole matches over the 2.5 days. Most spectacular were the after golf events...especially the food/drink. The huge locker room was filled with long tubs of beer and truly jumbo shrimp. The evening entertainment on Friday was 5 AAU boxing matches in a ring set up in the dining room. Heavy betting on unknown teenagers just based on how they looked. Also a full Calcutta and skins competitions.

Saturday was extended to wives/girlfriends with a great gourmet dinner, a 16 piece orchestra and ice sculptures as big as David.

Have no idea what the cost was but a fabulous event in any case. Unfortunately, we sucked so I can't comment on the prizes except that we won a $932 skin for a natural eagle.

Sounds like a great event but also very dangerous.

Most clubs suggest wives or girlfriends!

When they show up at the same time things can get a little messy.... maybe that is what the boxing ring was used for the second day?
