  • TGN Golf Days

Just putting a thought out there for the gang. I know this year we had Dundas, Muskoka Bay and Brantford that have had good turn outs. In the past we have had other locations.

Given the state of the industry, it appears that all but, the most prestigious private courses might welcome an experienced gang of 24 or so on a traditional slow day. We do have a little experience at it now and can give references that we won't literally rip up the course!

Do you think it would be worth approaching a couple private clubs across the GTA and doing something say once a month - our own little TGN tour? Perhaps try to add a fourth in September or replace one that we currently have for 2016 or even do a little rota with changes each year? Are there any private club members here who want to step up or non- private who want to make some calls? I can't remember who organized the Osprey Association and what was involved with that a few years ago - perhaps even something along those lines with different courses though.

I know it can be frustrating at times with the lists, wait lists and cancellations, re-bookings at times but, for myself I understand that SH*T comes up at the last minute and haven't really minded the scratching on and off the list stuff. The only tough part for me I found is the accommodating special requests for tee times and playing partners then having the special requester cancel and having to rejig the line up. Perhaps even consider getting pmt up front and leave it on the TGNer to find a replacement if the wait list dries up.

    Thinking out loud......

Would likely work out as many courses are open to having 'corporate' outings where a member (not in this case) would bring out a small party (usually less than 32) on a Monday or Tuesday morning around 10-2pm

Given the names behind it and clubs that can give reference to the outings and the people who organize them I would say its worth a good shot for sure.

I appreciate the crap out of guys like you and Hannah setting up events even if I don't go. I tried it the once and didn't find as much interest as I expected and then we got monsooned out.

Have no doubt that some clubs (not all) would welcome this. Would probably piggyback with a small tournament.

Personally, I would never attempt another one....I simply don't have the patience because to me if you say you are going then you, well, go. If I commit then I am there.

Tried to so a small group thing at Inverness this year and gave up after my friends went on and on about the pricing....this despite it being a better course at a lower price than the others we went to.

Guys who set these up are saints....

with companies like boxgroove springing up (https://www.boxgroove.com/), it certainly points to this as a direction for the industry. i'm guessing you won't get Toronto, Rosedale or St. G hosting one of these any time soon, but a lot of the other clubs might see the potential due to one time fee revenue or even new members down the road.

Colin, I might even jump on one of these and it's a long drive from Belleville. I just hope my participation doesn't drive away some of the folks.

If you could book Heron Point for something like this I would gladly take whatever tee time you assign me and pay up front.

You know I would be in for this.

I do most of my play at Pike Lake and Wildwinds. Neither is a private course but both are decent. I could try and set up a day at one or the other if either would be of interest to TGNer's.

That's the ticket. We have 4 of us down this way. Cuppa, Cdncombatmedic, jimmy3864, and me. Should be able to get up there some how.

Depending on when, I would be interested. Pmnt up front sounds reasonable for this type opportunity.
