Re: Modern Golf vs Golf Town fitting - my thoughts

Great read. I had a putter fitting at modern golf and I learned a lot about my putting stroke and the fitter told me my current putter (versa blade) was great for me. He simply adjusted the loft but could have easily told me that I should buy a custom Scotty, but didn't.

I think to each their own when it comes to where they want to get fit. I will for sure consider golftown for my future iron or driver fitting.

Driver actually cost $500 if you include the fittings(gift or not)

When getting fit at GT do they wave the $40 if you buy the club?

True on the 500 dollar total. If I could have done it again I would have only went to Golf town and bought a 330 dollar driver but it was an experience!

I think the added value of the fitting is that you won't second guess your club when you are swinging bad and waste money switching flipping tinkering etc. Plan on hitting this driver for awhile (the driver I replaced was an r9 supertri!)

I didn't actually ask about the fitting being credited to a purchase.. I would assume no since the fitting is a separate sku #... Maybe someone else knows the answer to this question as I'm also curious.

They don't but many managers can or will. Depending on the fitting at golftown the fee paid a percentage goes to swinglabs if I understand it correctly. GT pays swinglabs a per use for fitting software

On both of my GT fittings they just knocked the price off the club. I didn't do the 40$ fitting I did the 20$ club compare twice.

My apologies for the "not supporting Golftown" comment as you are correct that it was uncalled for and it was also unrelated to your post.

Re: Modern Golf vs Golf Town fitting - my thoughts

Fair and honest review by the OP in my opinion.

I share the same general opinion on GT/MG and chose to do all my buying at MG, it's worth the extra money to me.

                      Different strokes...

(edit: I do like to kick the tires at GT from time to time. (look around, never spend time in the sims), but I spend about $500/year there on shoes, clothes, golf balls so I don't feel like I'm taking advantage.)

I think a fee is totally reasonable. For $20 last year I got good feedback and made a driver purchase on the spot at Etobicoke GT.

you have a good GT fitter on this board, "Phatchrisrules", ask him and/or jump in the car to where he is. I think he is back from Holland now.
