Default Cobra Tour Players to Titleist or other?

I read in another post that Ogilvy was switching to Titleist for 2010. Now I've heard Villegas is doing the same.
I realize Acushnet is the parent company for both Cobra and Titleist, so it wouldn't be surprising for Titleist players to have Cobra clubs and vice versa but now the rumour mill (Golfwrx) is reporting that Cobra is pulling out of the tour (paying players to use Cobra) and will cease to exist in 2011

They obviously gave it shot pushing Cobra by tour representation but the brand never really got it's due. The new Cobra blades look sweet but they don't compete with the other major brands.

I dont think cobra would cease to exist all together. They are actually a large money maker, offering a good line of both men and womens clubs, without hefty prices. I work at St. Andrew's Valley, and we sell both Cobra and Titleist equipment. The majority of our club sales were in fact Cobra, not titleist, by a fairly large margin. However, i believe it is true that Cobra is pulling all of the tour, and theyre players, such as Villegas, Poulter, Holmes, and Ogilvy, are switching to either Titleist, or one other company.

If your statement that they "don't compete with the other major brands" means that they don't sell as much product, then you may be right. I don't know what the sales numbers are. If, however, you mean that their product is not of lesser quality, then I could not disagree with you more. The Cobra CB and MB blades are excellent. From 1965 to 2008 I played either Wilson Staff or Titleist tour blades. In 2008 I switched to a set of Cobra Pro Forged CB irons. They are every bit as good as the Titleist and Wilson Staff products. It's not surprising to me that Golf magazine had rated the Cobra blade so highly in their tests.

Cobra sells just great in our shop..Cobra was designed basically for
the recreational golfer as Titleist was aimed at the lower hdcp player

And that's what they're trying to get back to. Instead of having the Cobra 'player' clubs eating away at Titleist's market share, they're just going to split the lines. And if that's the case, why pay to have Cobra representation on tour when you're not targeting that market anyway?

Cobra was intended to market to the everyday golfer. I think that by doing this they can focus on this G.I. category and stay with their great price points for those clubs

i thought camillo was keeping s-91 driver and woods and then switching to titleist irons

you see alot of cobra players with vokey wedges and scotties so i guess acushnet would see him changing his irons to be that big of a deal
