Default Orlando

I know it has been discussed here but looking for info where I can stay cheap if such a word these days.

Don't mind staying about 1 hr from Disney, what other attractions one might go see, cheap.

A couple of nice tracks to play, cheap.

Did I mention cheap, haha, any people that have been there with there children around Xmas, just looking for any info someone can offer in regards to a very budget minded trip to Orlando.

Going to end up driving, might be sorry for this but the times that we are going we are missing the flight deals, going around Dec 22 and coming back around Jan 5th.

Thanks, Tom.

from a previous thread. I've highlighted in red the cheaper ones. If hanna's playing, lake orlando is perfect.

Here is my list:

Orange County National www.ocngolf.com. It's about 30 min up HWY 429 from the mouse.
Dubsdread http://www.historicaldubsdread.com a local fav. Just had $4M in course renos. not long but tight.
Lake Orlando http://www.golflakeorlando.com/ very cheap golf.
Stoney Brook www.stoneybrookgolf.com a very nice course. not walkable.
Wedgefield www.wedgefieldgolf.com. It's about 40-45 min east of the mouse. It's a nice course that's very playable without being boring.

Eastwood www.eastwoodgolf.com 45 min east of mouse. Tight and long.

Hunters Creek www.golfhunterscreek.com Very difficult without a yardage book, GPS or rangefinder.
Zellwod Station http://www.zellwoodgolf.com/ very nice. more than just a retirement course.

Worth the drive:
Southern Dunes www.southerndunes.com - about 40 min SW of Mouse

Want to Try
Harmony Golf Preserve http://www.harmonygolfpreserve.com/ about an hour SE of orlando
Black Bear http://blackbeargolfclub.com/

I've heard not so good things about Hunter's Creek. I asked about it on another forum, and there wasn't much in the way of positive news. The staff and service are good, but apparently the conditioning leaves a lot to be desired, as does the neighborhood it is located in...

Played Orange County National - Panther Lake Course this morning (Crooked Cat was closed). What a great course! Greens were running a solid 12+.

A bit cool at 7:30 when I teed off but was 26 by the time I finished at 12-ish.

When you go, head to the Fantasia putt putt course, and play the Fairways course. Every other mini-putt course on the planet will be considered a cakewalk after that.

Booked a sick deal for Orlando.. Dec 13-20

Flight, westjet, tax in $270.. Was a promotion they had about 1.5 mths ago..

Hotel.. Lake Eve.. 1300 sq ft room with kitchen, 2 bedrooms, living room.. There's 6 of us going, $480 CDN total tax in for the whole week, between 6 of us..

Disney tix might cost us more than flight and hotel lol

Every year for Christmas me and the G/F go to Disney, Despite what people think the best value is right through disney online. They have a dining plan that makes it all worth while, that includes UNLIMITED golf and lessons on the 4 disney courses thats why we go.

Last year
6 days accomodation
Airport pickup and drop off
Free transportation around all of disney - incld golf courses
Premium Meal Plan (3 meals and 2 snacks items a day, unlimited non-alcoholic drinks) - (which includes the unlimited golf)
4 park tickets.

Was $2800 (or 1400 per person). If you figure the food alone this was a steal then throw in unlimited golf and lessons at Palms, Mag, Oak Trail and L.B.V

The restaurants at Diseny are not hamburgers and hotdogs we're talking 5* star dining i.e. 2lbs lobsters stuffed with scallops and crab at Foultons, 12oz Porter house @ Portabello, French lambs roast at the Wave etc.... etc.. You can dine at almost all of the restaurants located around disney (incld in the parks) and the transport is all free.

Also when you stay at the Disney you get VIP access to parks, 2 hours before the public gets in and 2 hours after the park closes.

not sure of your budget or what it would cost for a family, but I would look into it, also for this year they have free days based on the number of days you pre-book i.e book 3days get 2 free ....

Hunter's Creek isn't that bad. I'd liken it to Royal Ashburn in the east and Silver Lakes in the north.
They have great online deals sent to me regularly.
See link below.

http://golfhunterscreek.com/sites/co...662&page=36525

Also, for accomodations, check www.vrbo.com

I booked my Beijing Olympics trip there last year and it was great. You deal directly with the owner of t.he condo/house. Everything property is independently owned. Good luck.

When you say budget mined what do you mean? You can do the trip I mentioned (minus the golf) for $3,400 for a family of 4 I just went on to disney and checked. Not sure how much lower per person you would expect over Xmas ??? That also included 10 park passess.

Ya thats a good price, but known many a person that has gone for a lot less, don't plan on being at Disney for the whole week, a Hopper pass is like $1000 for the 3 of us for 3 days,

I'm sure there is a lot of other things to do that are not expensive, I have friends looking for a time share place thats will cost us about $600 for the week.

If so, most of the meals can be eaten in the room, a couple of cheap rounds maybe a $100, already got a handle on that.

I will be sure to check out your suggustion though, was that $3400 with transportation, please send me a pm with more details, one's buget always gets kicked when planning, might have to reach into the pocket a little deeper,

Take a look at www.orlando4villas.com for houses, Tom. I rented from them last spring and it was a great experience.

Houses in all sorts of areas and pricing was very reasonable.

The deals are great for families. I went a year ago and got 25% off on 5 nights at the Polynesian and the meal plans (three of us) for free!. And yes, the restaurants are not like it was when I went there as a 10 year old. O"Hanas at the Polynesian is an all you can eat BBQ place where they bring the meats to your table and carve it right on to your plate. Awesome meal. I also really like Narcussies at the Grand Floridian. Had a great view of the fireworks over the magic kingdom while enjoying surf and turf. A great vacation!

The Palm and Magnolia courses are 2 of the course's I would like to play when down in Orlando as I think the budget just went out the window and were going to most likely stay at one of the Disney Resorts.

Anyone have any comments on these 2 course's, or comments on the other disney course's, Celebration looks very nice. Im planning on playing maybe 3 rounds, thanks for any feedback, Tom.

Trust me great call, Hannah will love it and so will you. Disney does things a step above most others 1st class all the way. Which resort and did you do a dining plan? If you did let me know and I will give you some tips/advice.

For courses you will certianly want to play Palms, Mag and L.B.V

My fav is LBV it is a great drivers course I personally don't think it is as tough as Palms or Mag but I like the layout better.

Palms and Mag give you freedom to drive long but also put shot placement into play. I do prefer Palms over magnolia it plays tight poff a few of the tee boxes and the par 3's are a good challenge.

I think it is just preference as most ppl tell me they like Mag.

Mag is just a good all around course but I find if your not hitting well it takes alot out of you.

I never played Oak Trial but I heard that is ok as well.

I've only played the Magnolia course and enjoyed the course - it was right after the PGA was there so the greens were insanely fast and the rough was still really thick so it made for tough scoring, but was fun to play as it gave you an appreciation for the conditions they face. I have heard that the Osprey Ridge course is the best on their property. If you stay on the resort, you will get discounted golf (not as much as a resident unfortunately) and they will pick you up / drop you off at the hotel at no charge which is convenient.

Oak Trail is a 9-hole executive track I believe...

Check here for condo rentals in Disney area.http://www.orlando4villas.com/

You may find better prices to the northeast in the Altamonte Springs Lake Mary Deltonta area about 40 minutes to Mickey in non rush hour.

Some good reasonable golf there as well.
