Default Winter Practice EAST of hwy 404

In your opinion, which is better: Metro dome, Markham dome, or other?

If other, which one and why.

I voted Metro. They may be a bit farther for me to travel (Hwy 7 and Markham), but I get a better treatment there as an instructor. I think their hitting stations are very similar and the distance is what it is (about 60-70 yards of ball flight). The "atmosphere" at Markham Dome is a bit better with a "pro shop" and nice cafeteria, but that's not why I'm going there. JMHO

Hey Lionel,
Is it just me or is Metro higher/taller?

I was there today (open house) and it seemed more spacious than Markham BUT alot more noise from the fans.

Considering how busy it gets, the disrepair of the targets, bad "putting" surface, etc, I was expecting less love for the Markham dome!

Too bad TIGC went belly up, I was planning to spend alot of time there this winter working with my wedges and putter.

I've never really paid that much attention to the height of the dome. I believe they are the same height though.

Not exactly sure of this dome, but they average between 70 and 80 yards from hitting stations to the netting.

On a side note: just wondering what the rest of you guys think of having an alternative to the Launch nights we had last season. Metro Golf Dome has a pizza night on Fridays. All you can eat pizza, 2 hours of range time (upper deck) for $18 (2 people sharing).

Metro is far better. I had a membership to the Markham Dome for a few years, but the only reason was that it's closer than Metro. Markham is crazy busy, and the place is really in disrepair a lot of the time.

What options exist further west in the GTA? We have Max's out here in Waterloo, but I'd like to look for other options closer then those mentioned above.

Waterloo?!

There's the dome on Dixie off the 403. I forget what it's called though but I'm pretty sure another TGN'er would be able to clarify.

I planned to join Oasis/TIGC this winter - liked the short game facilities. With their demise I decided to go with Markham Dome.

Metro facilities appear better, however:

- I found their golf balls to be REALLY BAD both times I was there - and that was at the beginning of the season. I wonder what shape they will be in later in the year. Markham replaces a good number of their balls on a regular basis.
- LOUD fan right at the putting area, and very close to the hitting stations. The fans @MD are at the opposite end of the dome.
- the field turf is very good but cushy. I like to practice hitting chip/pitch shots. When I hit these the ball stops deceptively quickly giving a false sense of the amount of spin on the ball. the floor of the MD is basically concrete. If the ball stops quickly you know it had spin!
- hours of operation more limited than Markham

The big downsides to Markham is that they are CRAZY busy, and the putting area is basically concrete

Nino, there's no reason why you can't have hot chocos and laughs in the dome, and those bitterly cold nights will be a bit easier on these old bones!

I'll look into it with the folks at Metro. I've got a pretty good working relationship with them. I'll post something when our season finally winds down to a close.

Also, the Friday night pizza nights won't interfere with the Tuesday nights at Launch. Might be a nice diversion actually.
