  • Patrick Reed says his Iron specs were off 2*

Hard to believe that a PGA pro with easy and immediate access to tour vans would be playing with equipment that was so far off.

You would think that would be someone's job to check each week with the tour van. Like his caddie. But in this case, that's his wife. So the caddie probably is not going to get blamed or fired.

maybe he just plays each week without checking they say forged irons can be thrown out of whack if you hit something with the club...a rock...root...even just with normal play....these guys swing faster than us mere mortals...if they got jangled out of whack but he chooses not to have them checked maybe it is his fault not the supplier or caddie....

He says the only club not off (13 out of 14 clubs) was his new wedge. So his putter specs were off as well?

Conspiracy to keep him out of being a top five player...

Re: Patrick Reed says his Iron specs were off 2*

After the tech in the tour van had them adjusted to his personal loft/lie spec's, it would only have happened to 2-3 of his irons, not the whole set.

A tendency for softer forged irons, the ones you hit most often, is to get stronger in loft by 1-2 degrees, and slightly flatter in lie. That's it.

I think he is in a bit of a funk as well.

I know from personal experience when I bought and played a set that was 1.5 deg upright that it had a huge impact for a hack like me so have to believe that for a pro who has his yardages down to a couple yards and can in most cases land the ball on a beach towel sized zone, having his irons out by as much as two degrees would totally screw him up.

Golf is streaky, he is not playing well but outbof spec irons were certainly not helping.

I assumed his wife was no longer caddying for him. Regardless, they're his tools. He should be directly or secondarily on top of the specs. What kind of analysis was he doing of his gaps, trajectory, etc.? Sounds a bit clueless and/or lazy to me.

by comparison,Dufner is among a few players who has his spec's down.

Watch PGA TOUR pro Jason Dufner control his spin rate with an iron. Part of TrackMan's 10 Fundamentals series, spin rate is primarily dictated by club speed ...

AFAIK no she hasn't gone back to caddying since she had the baby. She was replaced by her younger brother and I thought he was still on the bag.

Just a dumb *** move by a dumb ***!! dozens of players/caddies are in the Tour vans each week checking lies and lofts, regripping, etc. Most caddies and all the Tour vans have lists of each players specs. the fact that he never had them checked is 1 person's fault....his own. Honestly, this sure sounds like an excuse!
