  • Myrtle Beach (Best Courses?)

    Hello

I'm planning a trip to Myrtle early next year with some friends , (I know is still early, but we have to start now to get everyone going)

Anyhow, I'm wondering of you guys can suggest some good courses to play (as which ones to stay away from)

We will be there in January (I was there last January too, and it was great !), and will be staying for 1 week. Planning to play 6 times

Thanks in advance for your feedback

    Regards
To golf, or not to golf? What a stupid question!

        My Favourites are as follows:

        Legends (ALL)
        Oyster Bay - a must
Marsh Harbour - Toughest back 9
        Barefoot is a goodtrack
If you stay at the Legends resort you can play these and other (forget them at the moment - will dig out old scorecards and post later)

Avoid any on Restaurant Rd. - Gimmicky and not worth the $.

Take a short drive (maybe 30 mins) over the border to Calabash N.C. Some amazing courses there and not as expensive
Hitting fairways is boring. You don't meet other people or find lost balls.

Was in Myrtle last October, and I played Man'O'War, The Witch, & The Wizard. Names/themses for the places were a little gimmicky, but the quality of The Witch was astounding - especially the front 9.

Man'O'War and The Wizard are located at same place, and while not going to host a US Open anytime soon, they force you to play well. Great condition, and some great packages available - check on eBay!

              Re: Myrtle Beach (Best Courses?)

Been to MB every year for the last 5 years. Played quite a few courses. Here are my "Best of" List:

              King's North
              Long Bay
              The Heritage
              Caledonia Golf and Fishing Club
              River Club
              Barefoot Resort (All Four Courses)

Played tons of other courses that are 'decent' but nothing to write home about. The Courses above were just head and shoulders above what I have played so far.

Went to MB last year and really enjoyed playing The Pearl and Panther's Run.

                Have a great trip.

                  Re: Myrtle Beach (Best Courses?)

Best courses if money is no object are:

                  Barefoot (all 4)
                  Caledonia
                  Dunes Golf and Beach Club
                  International World Tour
                  King's North
                  Tidewater
                  True Blue
Wild Wings and Legends are good too.

There are over 100 golf courses to choose from, so there is a golf package for every type of golfer and budget. If you're going in January, non peak season, might as well take advantage of the low prices for the best courses!

                    Re: Myrtle Beach (Best Courses?)

Most mb golf packages force you to play a couple of lesser lights or the cost rises quickly.

                    Courses I enjoy include
                    1. Oyster Bay
                    2. Tidewater
                    3. Heather Glen (the older course)
                    4. Rivers Edge (9th is one of the hardest holes i've ever played)
                    5. Carolina National (check the name it is in north carolina but it is an evil course)

All these courses are either in the northern end of myrtle beach or the very southern end of north carolina. be careful where you are staying because the grand strand is a big place and you could be in for some long drives if you are not careful.

We've stayed a couple of times at the condo's beside oyster bay which are quite nice and central to all the courses i listed above.

                    good luck and have fun.

i spent a lot of time in the beach every fall. the guy that tipped you to north carolina was right on. but if you like all the pomp an BS you still cannot touch the grand daddy and that is right down town. hell the free chowder on 8 makes it wortht the trip.
